I have a Whirlpool top load HE washer, about 2.5 years old, and we do about 2 loads a week. It recently started displaying Code OL, even on medium loads. Yesterday, it started filling during the wash cycle, and the basin started rotating while water continued to fill. At approximately 28 minutes remaining on the wash cycle, after filling the basin to what appeared to be a higher than normal water level, the timer then skipped to 4 minutes remaining, and proceeded to drain and spin. I tried 3 different wash cycles with same results. Agitator never came on, but no error codes. It just skips to the drain and spin after filling the basin. I lifted the whole top of the machine, and removed the plastic cover to see if anything fell between the inner and outer basin, but saw nothing, and it spins easily.

It sounds like the motor drive coupler has broken. This means the motor is no longer turning the gearcase, but it is turning the pump. It will be repaired under warranty if it is only 7 months old. You should have a full one year warranty on the washer. If not, he can probably fix it, but it will need a new coupler. He can tilt the machine back and see the coupler between the motor and transmission from underneath. I can walk you through replacing it if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it if it is still under warranty. There could possibly be something more major wrong that has caused it to break and some of the factory servicers are real picky about customers working on a machine under warranty. If you need it running tonight, he may be in trouble. Post back if you need further help or have more questions. Thanks/mike

check the direct drive coupling between the motor and the transmission
SOURCE: Basin will not fill with water during rinse cycle but will agitate and spin.
most new washers have cold water only rinse and spray rinse ck cold water coming into machine during wash if no cold comes in suspect cold side of fill vale not opening ..could be wiring issue or a bad valve

The motor coupling is broken, the part located between the motor and the transmission.

my friend had same problem with his machine. instead he filled it with boiling water and dumped a bottle of no name brand liquid plumber in and let it run through. the smell was fierce but it cleaned it out. this is probably not the smartest or safest way but it is easy. oh one more word VENTILATION!
