Refrigerators only have one cooling system and that is for the freezer. The fridge part is cooled by sending a portion of the air from the freezer to the fridge. your fridge thermostat controls a fan that turns on and off as needed. first step is to make sure this is working, and not stuck on. turn your fridge to a somewhat warm no and open the door for a few minutes to allow the cold air out then check and see see if it gets very cold again within say an hour. if it does your fan is always on and you need to repair it. if that is working then you have to play with both freezer and fridge settings. best thing is to get a cheap thermometer and check your freezer temp. it should be around 0 to -5f if it is colder than that frigid air blowing into your fridge too cool the whole area will freeze anything close to the vent. once you have your freezer set then start adjusting your fridge. personally I have mine set at 34f knowing that some things on the top shelf will freeze. but I like my cola's COLD. so I put things like butter that are harder to freeze at that level. but if you don't want anything to freeze then a temp of 37 -39f is correct for your fridge. so it comes down to freezer temp, the amount of time the fan is on, and proximity to the vent. good luck

I have tried changing the settings on my westinghouse side by side fridge freezer from 3 up to another setting of 5 but it keeps defaulting to 3 and food continues to freeze ,how do I save the new setting?

I found this link to a manual at http://manuals.appliancesonline.com.au/wtm3000pbrh/wtm3000pbrh.pdf . If it was me. The first thing I would do is to unplug the refrigerator for 15 minutes and then plug it back in. I would do this to reset the control board. If you are changing the temperatures and they reset to factory setting then you might have a problem with the control board. Try unpluging it and see if that works first. Refrigerator repair can be difficult and if that does not work you may have to contact a repairman in your area to come out and diagnose it. If I can help you please contact me HERE.

Fridge is freezing....

The way you've stated your problem is confusing? The temperature is the freezer should be 5 degrees F or below, preferably at 0 degrees F. The refrigerator side should be anywhere from 34 - 38 degrees F, What exactly is the problem your having, fresh food not cooling but freezer works ok?

Pss26lg freezer is -20 in the bottom amd +20 in the top, the fridge side is freezing at the bottom amd 37 at the top, the fan is not running, if unplugged and allowed to sit for a few minutes the fan will...

replace the main board or the fan motor. after you replace one if the problem persists then you have to replace the other. then fan is DC on this model. if it is not telling the board it is running at full speed then the motor is bad. if the board is not putting out the proper voltage then the board is bad. it is a toss up unless you can read diagrams and test the proper wire at the main board. or call for service

Food is freezing

usually there is an adjustment at the back for the difference between the fridge and freezer compartment. Often is just a vane that blocks freezer air, too much air would freeze the food. Normally you set the fridge thermostat for a normal food temp, then adjust the air to keep the food warmer than the freezer.
