Samsung HLN5065W The TV. screen started flashing black and whit (like strobe light) off and on leaving silhouettes of objects on the screen. Sometimes it freezes up instead of flash and will not turn off. I have to unplug it. Sometimes when it flashes for a while, it all of a sudden stops, and the picture is again beautiful. Then it starts flashing or freezes up again. I hear a "bird like chirping" when it does this. I have already replaced the lamp, but am not sure if it's the color wheel going out, or something else. Please help as it's hard to look at when it's "strobing", or can't watch it at all.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

SOURCE: Tv flashes like strobe light. high pitch sound like birds chirping. Already replaced with new lamp. what could it be?

I have seen this before; this set has a DMD board/module that is part of the optical light engine, we tossed a number of these sets out at the shop since the board is over 400 wholesale and the light engine which comes with it is over 500 wholesale.

The dead giveaway is you have to unplug it, that is always a very bad sign.

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

Ballast or Lamp?

Its not the lamp or the ballast board. In either case, you would lose picture (going blank or black) and sound would soon follow then the LEDs in front would blink if at all.

Odds are its either the DMD board or the digital board.
