Dscw570 cybershot, screen is blank even though it is turned on, lens extends, but screen is blank

This is going to require service / repair at the shop, not something you will be able to correct.

Try this:
Remove the batteries at the same time that you remove the camera's memory card. This will allow the camera to reset. The camera does not require the memory card to operate, so leave the memory card out as you reinsert the batteries. If the camera turns on with the memory card out, but not with it in, you may have a corrupt memory card. Contact the memory card's manufacturer for a replacement.
Turn on the camera in playback mode. This mode allows you to turn on the camera without extending the lens. If your camera is already set to playback mode, it may appear the camera is not turning on when you press the "on" button, because the lens will not extend.Contact Sony if your camera still won't turn,if you bought your camera new from a licensed retailer, it should come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty. I have a cybershot DSC W55. When the power button is switched on the lens extends and the "access" message shown on screen. Also amber light is flashing above screen. After a few seconds I get a message to power on and off again. I\'ve tried switching on and off a few times, removing battery pack and memory card, but nothing seems to be solving the problem.

1. Go into the menu and find "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions. 2. Remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.

Two possibilities: one bad, one not so bad. If you've recently dropped the camera you've likely damaged the lens tube (housing), and the camera will require professional repair. Before you panic though, the problem that you described is frequently battery related. Make sure that your batteries are the correct type for the camera, and that they are fresh/fully charged. If the batteries are OK, the problem may be due to corrosion on the contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the inside contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sand paper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, wipe the ends of the batteries, and replace them in the camera. This cleaning process works about 90% of the time, and I hope that it cures your problem.

You may not believe this and I hope you haven't spent a lot of money fixing your problem. I read that some people had a different error message coming up on their Sony Cybershot DSC-W150's and in order to fix it, they literally banged the lens against their knee while the lens was out and it re-focused and the error message disappeared. I tried this while my camera was doing exactly what you described above AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 2 or 3 firm blows, my LCD screen came up and focused. I can't believe it myself, but I was just desperate enough to try it and VOILA!

There are several causes for this to happen.
1. The lens assy is out of alignment and stuck; stalling the motor.
2. The motor itself is defect
3. If you can hear the motor working , then it will be a stripped plastic gear between motor drive and lens assy.
DIY repair not recommended (possible)

Some of these cameras that have a lens that extends use gears to extend the lens. The gears can strip or get clogged with fine debris and jam the lens. Usung good quality rechargable batteries NOT ALKALINE will usualy have the power to drive the lens.

Ask yourself, how many cycles do you have on the pack? could the pack be weak and not power the camera fully?

Have you tried pushing firmly in on the battery while you power it up? If the camera will not power on with the door open, try and fold a small trip of paper and sit it between the battery and the door. This might push in on the battery enough to better the connection and solve the issue.

If the battery is fine then you may have a lens problem. The lenses can be jammed easy, dropped or an impact when extended is all it takes.

Though there may be an alternate reason, It sounds as though you may be experiencing a failed CCD image sensor with your camera.

Try pressing the display (DISP) button on the back of your camera several times to see if your image returns at any time. One of the three display modes is "off" to preserve battery life. Your problem may be as simple as inadvertently pressing this button into the off mode.

If that doesn't work, try doing a reset and then removing your batteries from the camera for a few minutes, reinstalling them and turning the camera on to test the LCD screen.

If your screen is still black, but you can clearly see pictures taken previous to the problem, and you can clearly see the menu system when you press the MENU button, then you likely have the CCD sensor problem. Contact Canon Tech Support at 1-800-828-4040 to have the camera repaired.
