Hello...

Steps To Convert your Belkin Router as an Access Point.

- Connect your D - Link Router to your PC & Check the Default Gateway It Might Be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

( Finding Default Gateway: Right Click on Local Area Connection & click on Status - Click on Details For Win 7 & Win Vista & For Win Xp - Right Click on Local Area Connection & Click on Status, Select Support Tab & Click on Details )

- Now Connect the Belkin router to your Com .. Open Internet Browser & Go to 192.168.2.1

- Towards your Left Corner Under Wireless Clink on Use as Access Point

- It will Prompt you For a Password Leave it Blank & Click on Submit

- Select the Radio Button Next to Enable

- In Specify IP Address Type in IP Address in Range of your D - Link Router Eg: 192.168.0.254

- Select Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0

- Click on Apply Changes

- Now Open the Router Setup Page Using the Ip Address which you gave EG: 192.168.0.254

- Connect an Ethernet cable From your D - Link Router to Any 1 of the Wired Slots on the Router ( Note: We are using Wired Slot as we have Disabled the NAT on the Belkin Router It Gives you IP Address From your D - Link Router & the DHCP on the Belkin Router is Turned Off)

- Power cycle the D- Link Router & Belkin Router For 15 Seconds Each ( Unplug the Power cable & Plug it Back After 15 Seconds)

- Now go to the Router Setup Page & Check the Internet Status in the Top Right Corner It Would Be Connected.

- Try Going Online... :)

Can not access the 192.168.1.2 ip

Hey achek76,

I would assume you are trying to reach for router configuration page via your internet browser.

The first step I would take it to confirm this is indeed the correct address for such a page. In order to do this follow these steps:

  • Start >
  • Accessories >
  • Command Prompt or CMD
Once opened you should have what looks like a black box that you can write text in. Write in the following command:
  • ipconfig
Once this command is wrote you should get output that looks like this, along with some others but we are only worried about one and that's the default gateway which I have made bold. This will be the address required to reach your router configuration via your internet browser. (Ignore the address you see here as they are mine and are no use to you.)

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.121.51
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.120.1

If you confirm you are using the correct browser I would then proceed with resetting your router via the small pin hole located on the back, this will restore it to factory defaults and maybe clear up any problems the router is experiencing.

Once reset run the command I mentioned above and check your default gateway again and type that IP into your browser to access your router configuration.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for using fixya!

When i changed my isp from talktalk to sky broadband my dell 1450 adaptor can not connect even though there is a connection via ethernet cable apparently dell say it is a software problem and want to...

When it says 'Conntected: 100Mbps" on the bottom, all it's saying is that you have a physical connection between your computer and the device it's talking to.
Now one thing you need to double check is that (I assume you have a wireless router) the router or whatever device you have connecting to your ISP modem has the correct network information. For example some ISPs will give you a static IP address that you have to manually add to your router. If TalkTalk does that, and Sky doesn't, make sure your router is automatically obtaining an IP address. This should connect you to your ISP and to the internet. Then your DELL machine should get an IP address from your router and then you should be good to go.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Have philips wireless modem from talktalk but dont have installation disc. need to install mamnually

I think this is a wireless router, and therefore does not need an installation disk.

all you need to do is connect to the router (using a lan cable if you cannot connect to it wirelessly) the default IP address should be 192.168.2.1 type this ip into IE you should get a configuration page and then you should then be able to configure the rest of the settings yourself

Cannot finish installation (Belkin F5D8633-4 wireless modem router N mimo)

ok, obvious questions first:

Do you have a different modem from TALKTALK? can you connect to the internet through that?

if so, you may not have to set a username and password for the belkin router: just connect the belkin router's internet port to the talktalk modem and let the talktalk modem handle the automatic connection.

do you know what protocol the talktalk ISP uses?  it's probably PPPOE; make certain that your belkin router is set to the correct protocol.  if you just hook it up to the talktalk modem though, you probably won't have to specificy a protocol at all.
