I don't service home model units and I'm not familiar with that unit at all...However, I would guess the ceramic part would be where the oil goes? Where are the heating elements located at?

Can you use vegetable oil in the deep fryer in place of peanut oil?

No peanut oil is the best. It has to do with oil temperature.

I have a betty g slow cooker model scf80. do i put water in the metal part before putting my crock in?

I just read the manual for the betty "g" scf80 and all it says is "The stoneware liner when inserted in your Betty "g" slow crock cooker fryer is surrounded by air. This air is heated to the desired cooking temperature when the control knob is set to one of the two settings indicated for slow crock cooking. This Method of heating produces a slow and even rise in temperature that prevents scorching, less chance of overcooking, minimum loss of nutrients, less shrinkage and boiling away of juices.". My wife says no you should not as well, as she does not on our new model crockpot.

Use of an old slow cooker

NO!
it should say on the metal below the ceramic pot to not get it wet

slow cookers make enough heat to heat the contents of the ceramic pot.

You will need to use the 1st drop down to select service manual.
Use the 2nd drop down to select MJ45 series fryers.

Thanks
