Horizontal line on printed page

When you use the flatbed the copy is perfect because the ccd sensor is under the glass cover and obviously is free form dust/ dirt.
On the other hand if you use the feeder the ccd sensor is located in between the roller assembly (not sure exactly for this model).
This means that the page is scanned by the ccd in the feeder, any dirt on the ccd will appear as a black line. I assume that you are feeding papers from the side and not from the top that is why you get a horizontal line.

A quick test to see if the ccd sensor is dirty is to feed the paper from the top side to the feeder. If you get a vertical line it is a proof that your ccd sensor needs to be cleaned.
The worst case is that the sensor in the feeder assembly has a tiny spot that is damaged and it is causing the black line.
So , first try the test, then open the feeder assembly, locate the ccd and clean it. Hope that this helps.

I have a Epson cx11 and get a black vertical line down the middle of scans and copies

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first
1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section
2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass
So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it

Toshiba e-studio 3510c

Check that the cable that comes out of the back of the feeder is plugged in completely. If not, turn off the machine and unplug the copier before plugging the adf connector in, then turn machine back on.

If that is not the problem, the sensor flag or sensor may be out of place. Where the paper goes in, there should be a black plastic flag hanging down that the paper will move when you insert it, If you can see it and it seems to move properly, then the sensor may be out of place or the sensor/feed medchanism is out of place and it is a little tricky to explain here. The sensor is above the flag, but under a metal plate and you may mess it up worse by trying to take it apart.

How do I scane on my mx310

You will need to plug the printer andcomputer together with a USB cable in order to use the printer's scanningcapabilities. The scanning unit on theMX310 features an automatic document feeder on top of the printer, which willscan multiple pages itself. You can also choose to load documents on thescanning glass, which is covered by the scanner's lid. This is how to do it. 1. Turn on the printer by pressingthe "Power" button until it illuminates and turn on the attachedcomputer. Wait for the printer to finish its initialization process beforecontinuing. 2. Place the document face up inthe automatic document feeder if the document's papers are uniform in andfit in the feed tray. Adjust the paper-width guide to the of thedocument's papers. 3. Place the first page of thedocument face down on the scanning glass after you have lifted the scanningunit's cover, if you choose to not use the automatic document feeder. Close thecover again slowly so the document does not shift on the glass. 4. Press the "Scan"button on the printer's control panel, then press either "Black" or"Color," depending on the type of scan you would like to perform. 5. Retrieve the scanned documentfrom the automatic document feeder's output tray once the scan job is over.Otherwise, click on the "Yes" button on the computer's screen, indicating you would like to scan another page. 6. Lift the scanning unit's cover, remove the document from the scanning glass and place the next page of thedocument face down on the glass. Close the scanner's cover and click on the"OK" button on the screen to scan the next page. Repeat this processuntil all of the document's pages have been scanned.

Auto feeder not working

Easy fix. Turn the machine off, on the back side of the document feeder is one beige cable. Unscrew the two screws and disconnect the cable. Turn the machine on with the feeder unplugged, let it come to ready. turn the machine off, connect the beige connector and turn the machine back on, It basically forgot it has a feeder and needs to plug and play without the feeder then to detect it when plugged back in,

When faxing does paper face uup or down

You load the originals print side uo on the document feeder tray or print side down on the glass.
To send a single page fax you can either load the original on document feeder tray or on the glass; to send a multi-page fax you must use the document feeder tray.

The position of the paper is the same either you copy, fax or scan.
All this is clearly explained in the user's manual, that you should read and you can download from HP support pages for you printer:

Paper shifts

Does it happen both off the copy glass & thru the document feeder or only off the document feeder. If both - check the side guides inside the cassette to make sure they are tight against the paper. If it only happens when using the feeder- the feeder tray needs to be adjusted. There is usually 2 screws under the document tray that when loosened allow for side to side adjustment. Moving the tray should solve the problem if it is only happening when you use the document feeder.
