Follow the water inlet pipe to water pump the thermostat housing connects to water pump this is for 2.4l engine you have to remove exhaust manifold heat shield.you will see the water inlet pipe going to water pump inlet thermostat housing.for the 3.1 engine follow top radiator hose to thermostat housing you have to remove air filter air duct and filter housing , you have to remove throttle body unit with coolant hoses, you have to disconnect accelerator cable, transmission down shift cables at the bracket bolts to throttle body.once you remove throttle body unit then you can see and remove the thermostat housing to replace thermostat.you need to buy new throttle body gasket, and new small coolant hoses connects to the throttle body unit.have extra gallon antifreeze dexcool on hand.

water pump is located at the very back of your car engine almost touching the firewall.
its a pain to get back there and just pray your water pump dont actually go out cause its best to take to a mechanic its all inter twined with the timing chain and alot of removal just to take out and replace..best of luck

SOURCE: I need a wiring diagram for a starter for a 1997

If you want to buy a manual for your car, i would suggest a Haynes. They have excellent wiring diagrams. If you just want to get a peak at one, log on to Autozone.com and register for a free account. Once you do, you can add your vehicles to an online garage and view online manuals that include wiring diagrams.

Hope this helps,
matt

Where is thermostat

Flollow the large raditor hose to the engine block. You will have to remove the bolts that hold it to the block. Be sure to replace it the same way you took it out. Make sure you clean the area good with a razor blade to get off any old gasket.
