My projector started making a grinding noise and as its out of warrenty I decided to take a look inside.
It seems that the color wheel is faulty. The glass disk has come loose from the motor that drives it so it is spinning freely. Either I need a new colour wheel or I need to glue the glass disc back to the motor but I don't know where it aligns to the black mark? Any ideas?
If not I need a new colour wheel but Optoma UK have been less than helpful and refuse to supply the part.

Baily, I have had my HC1500U color wheel replaced two times due to the color wheel's unpleasant "buzz saw" effect showing up every few thousand hours of usage. It is happening again for the third time and I am still within Coscto's warranty so I am going to have it replaced again...will never buy a DLP projector again...too many moving parts that can break!
Would love to be able to replace it myself if you ever find a place that sells the color wheel.
The piece that's cracked is called a color wheel. I spoke with the parts department at optoma and they want $300 for a new color wheel for my ep 732h projector. I'm not sure if it's the same part but you can contact optoma on their website and they'll get back to you with a price quote for that part.
Hi, I had a similar problem - the screen flicked through blue, green and red sometimes with a slight ticking noise. The problem seems to be that the colour-wheel is getting stuck - the first time this happened I sent it back to optoma who gave it a clean - it has happened again since thouegh and I just took the case off (you'll be able to see the colour wheel under a black plastic flap - remove the flap) I then used a cotton bud (q-tip) and turned the colour wheel whilst lightly pressing the cotton bud against the wheel - I also gave everything a blast with a can of air. My HD72i is ceiling mounted - optoma suggested putting the hoover pipe across the vents every now and then to keep the dust down. Essentially it's dust that is stopping the movement of the colour wheel.
Use the warranty! since you anly had it for 8 weeks, and the waaranty last for one year, go back with it and get it repaired or get a new bulb. A buld last at least 2500 hours, in eco mode it last for over 3000 hours.
Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same problem I had.. I had it on picture mute, for maybe 15 mins, which may not have been a good idea. While it was muted, it made a sparking sound, and then a very loud grinding noise. When turned off, the lound noise stops, and the fan continues as usual for about a minute. As soon as it's turned back on, the grinding noise is back. But the logo seemed to display ok.
I took it in for repairs, and they said they needed to replace the color wheel to fix the problem.
Your best bet on getting your hands on a Service Manual would be to contact Optoma themself.
As for changing the colour wheel , it is pretty straight forward if you were able to open up the unit and get to it.
The colourwheel is mounted with three tiny scrws to a bracket in which it sits. And the bracket in it's turn is fastenend to the body of the Projector with two tiny screws.
First unscrew the bracket from the casing of the Projector and then take off the three screws that holds the Colour wheel to the bracket. Replace and do the whole proses again - but obviously just the other way round.
This is really easy to do yourself.
Give me a shout if you need any further assistance.
