Hello
Check the remote first for its infrared emission. If it is OK, the infrared sensor inside your tV is faulty. It should be replaced with same type and number. It can be located just behind the infrared window at the front panel of your Tv. You ahve to open your TV ot access it. It will have three solder terminals, and will look somehat brownish black in colour. Will look like this.

If do not do it. Open the remote control clean the keypads from corrosion, and resolder any colder joint . clean the contacts batteries and try again.

Our remote died to our Vizio ....checked batteries, etc...have been having problems for a while...bought a new universal Vizio remote...keyed in all the numbers....last four work...but still is not...

New TVs and older ones, even recent model changes usually have different codes. Read the new remote closely. there is a section about finding the code manually. It is a pain, but works.

Volume and mute buttons are not working

Do you have fresh batteries in the remote? You did not provide your TV brand so I can't provide you the codes for your specific TV. Below I have provided instructions on how to perform a power scan. If this doesn't work, you may need a new remote.

  • Remote: Basic Remote (Television Only)
    1. Turn the Television On.
    2. Press and hold the clear TV button for three seconds until the LED flashes.
    3. Press and release the redTV Power button.
    4. Press and release the Up or Down Arrow on the remote until the television turns off.
    5. After the television turns off, press and release the # button.
    6. Test functionality with the TV.
    7. Return to Step 2 if the remote is not able to turn the TV On/Off, change the volume and mute the television.

My remote won't set to the tv I tried pressing the set button and it didn't work then I replaced the batteries to see if that would work but it didn't and now I don't know what to do please...

Hello
You might have a cellphone with camera option. Set the cellphone co cemera mode, and place the remote control at about 1 feet away from its camera lens, and press each button on your remote control. Remote control emits infrared rys as we press each button, but can't be detected by human eye. Electronic cameras can detect it. If there is any infrared ray emission from your remote control you will see its image on the camera screen for each button press to your remote control. If there is image and still the Tv doesn't respond to it, The TVs' infrared snsor inside has damaged and should be replaced. If there isn't any image; check the battery contacts of the remote battery compartment first. Clean these contacts by using a piece of corborandum paper or with the tip of a razor blade. Improper battery contacts, due to rust and dust to these contacts will prevent the battery supply voltage to enter into the remote contro.
Still it doesn't work at all, the remote control is damged and should be replaced. Contact the nearest Vizio Authorised Service Cente fro original remote control. OK.

My remoute control joust change the volume and anyother keys doesn't work.

The remote's volume keys are "punch-thru" keys, meaning they'll work for the TV for which the
remote is programmed no matter what mode the remote is in. It seems your remote is not
in "TV mode," but the punch-thru keys (volume UP/DOWN) are working.
The Solution: change the remote from "AUX mode" or "DVD Mode" back to "TV mode", by
pressing the "TV" button at the top of the remote.

Either that, or your remote keypad has failed with the exception of the Volume UP/DOWN keys....
Also, your batteries may be failing, since it takes a tiny amount of energy to light
the IR (infra-red) LEDs at the front of the remote to change the volume.
Is your remote a "multi-function" remote?
Could help more if you could post your Samsung remote model number, since
www.samsungparts.com lists 37 pages of TV remotes (at 10 models per page).

Toshiba 32a33. I'll be watching tv and the volume bar shows goes down to 0 (no sound) when it is in this mode the remote control will not work on the volume, you can get up and manually up the volume...

1st check to see if your remote volume down button is stuck. 2nd do you have wireless internet (router) or any other wireless devices phones, ceiling fans, another Toshiba remote, if so try unplugging them (or remove the batteries if it's a remote) while it's changing the volume one at a time. If a different device makes it stop try changing the channel on it. Also make sure the t.v doesn't have a mind of its own and remove the batteries out of the t.v remote, let it ride for a couple days if it happens without the remote being in play then you know your t.v is acting strange, if it stops then starts back up when you start using the remote again then you know your dealing with a remote issue. Sometimes Freq.'s merge causing remotes/wireless devices to conflict with each other.
