Oven door will not unlock after self cleaning

    All of a sudden "oven door locked" is flashing on the display, and the oven doesn't program. I can still open the oven door though.

    i realized after i set cleaning that i had something with plastic inside can not open oven door

I have a GE profile Spectra Gas oven and went to clean it yesterday and the door will not unlock. What can I do? Please advise . Thank you, Zeedancer

I had the same problem, and after about a month of troubleshooting, I finally found the problem. There is an overtemperature switch built into the electrical panel of the oven. Resetting this switch solved my problem.

To reset it:
TURN OFF THE POWER!
Open the door (if it is locked, turn the power back on and gently pull on the door every few seconds as the locking mechanism cycles until it is unlocked)

remove the 3 screws below the control panel (screws point upwards, with the head just inside the oven)
pull off the face of the control panel. Let it dangle by the wires so that you have access to the space behind it.

Within the electrical enclosure exposed by removing the control panel, Look for a small silver and black device with 2 wires attached to the back. The device is about .5" wide by 1" long and is attached with 2 screws to the sheet metal on the bottom of the electrical enclosure. Mine was located nearly in the middle of the electrical enclosure.

Push the tiny button on top of the switch. You should fee a click.

Reassemble and power up.

If the display reads "CLN" while the "Door Locked" light is on, the Kenmore range is in self-clean mode. When the Kenmore range is in self-clean mode, you must stop the cleaning process before the door will unlock.
Step 2 Stop the self-cleaning process by pressing and holding the "Stop/Clear" button for three seconds. The oven lock should disengage after three seconds. In some cases, a malfunction between the control panel and the locking mechanism prevents the door from unlocking.
Step 3 Hold the light switch for several seconds if the "Stop/Clear" button fails to unlock the range door. Engaging the light switch for several seconds resets the entire locking mechanism and overrides the "Stop/Clear" button.

Your self cleaning cycle is running. When self cleaning is running the door is automatically locked and will not unlock until the self cleaning cycle completes or self cleaning is turned off. You should be able to just turn off the self cleaning cycle and the door will unlock. Do not try to pry open the oven door. You will just damage the door and/or the catch.

The oven gets extremely hot during the self-cleaning mode... the door switch might have got stuck in locked position, or broken in locked position (to be replaced), let's hope it's just stuck...which you'll need to work the mechanical lock-unlock latching back and forth to hopefully unstick....and if that doesn't work just re-run self-cleaning process but this time let the oven cool completely before unlocking the door. the oven door does lock during self clean, otherwise it will not work. however, the door is supposed to unlock after the oven has cooled. if it is still locked, turn the oven to self clean and wait about a minute and then hit cancel and see if the door unlocks. if not, there may be a probelm with the door lock mechanism. Door lock motor has probably failed.....Self clean on many ovens can be a self destruct mode. Door latch motors, sensor probes and even the electronic controls can be destroyed by this operation. Suggest oven cleaner method.
