Tv is 10yrs old. Started with color only red and blue, standby blinking, now nothing. Had something like this long time ago is this worth fixing?
My wife came home from work turned on color was way off lots of red and blue, tried adjusting, nothing. Sdby light blinks, OM says take to Sony service center. Closest one 3 + hrs away. Happened once before
Re: Tv is 10yrs old. Started with color only red and...
Propably green not working. due to age its hard decision its worth or not to repair, but i recommend to sell for a few bucks to a hobby-freak and buy a new one...

It sounds like the low-voltage control relay has gone bad. This is what brings the tv out of standby and into full-on. Does it havr the same responce with button and remote? the other possability is the high voltage plasma exiter circuit is experiencing thermal-overload. If it's the first, an easy fix. If second, then the tv is a gonner. Not worth the money to repair. Plasmas unfortunately by design only lats 6-10yrs.
I had similar symptoms about a year ago. Also came on sudden. The red convergence chip had burned out (poor heat sinking on this model Hitachi). Replacing the color convergence chips fixed it. ($50 for parts.) First, however, have you tried the "magic focus" function? That's explained in the manual, which is available online IIRC, but I'd have to look for the link if you need it.
It is rear projection TV that use 3 picture tubes of red-green-blue to show color picture on tv front screen. Do you see standby red light blinking when TV shuts off after showing blue image for a while? If red standby light is blinking, please count it how many times it blinks, there would be 3 seconds pause between blinks so count pause to pause and post it here to find out possible solution. Thanks.
Color issues are harder to solve without seeing the problem. It sound like the red amplifier on the crt board is bad. Is there any red in the picture at all? If not, that will be you problem
Yes, the blinks are error codes. I would not bother trying to figure out what they mean, I can tell you right now. Expensive repair. Average repair costs are 1/4 to 1/2 of the TV's current worth. Most likely a bad transistor. The average expected life span of a TV set is 3-5 years. After that, stuff starts wearing out fast. Time to move on.
yes it is worth fixing.if you r getting it repaired for the first time.
but you will have to wait for some long time to get it repaired as the tv is very old its very difficult to get the parts for reparing it.
the problem what you r facing is the problem of the convergence in your main board of the tv.
it has to be repaired.
i will advise you to get it repaired as it will work.
for doing it your self you can try clicking this link and following the given instructions in it
Sounds like a typical high-voltage failure. Could easily cost
another $300 to have it fixed. If it is less than about 6 years
old I'd say it was worth fixing. If you want to DIY, then pull
all the electronics out (label all the connections) and send it all to
either Module Exchange at 972-298-1212 or PTS Electronics

This is the most common death mode for TV's. The high voltage is
acting up. You set is not quite 10 years old right? Can be
fixed, but involves replacing the Flyback transformer which is not
cheap. It is a toss-up as to whether it is worth putting the $200
or so it will cost to fix into a set that has limited expected lifetime.
