SOURCE: Mitsubishi TV Model VS-7083

The deflection board and/or smps have most likely ring-cracked on one or more components on the board due to heat stress. It's not an expensive fix at the moment, but continuing to operate it this way will place additional stress on components like the regulator and they will eventually fail...
If you're taking it into the shop for this repair also discuss with your tech to do the following per Mits bulletin: APPLY FOLLOWING CIRCUIT CHANGES ON PCB-SIGNAL: A. REPLACE R2K8 WITH A 1K RESISTOR (BASE OF Q2B2). B. REPLACE R2K3 WITH A 47 OHM RESISTOR (IC201 PIN 50). C. ADD A 100PF CAPACITOR FROM BASE OF Q2B2 TO JUNCTION OF R2L0 AND R2K6 (GROUND).
Have a great day!

SOURCE: Horizontal Lines On Screen

horizontal lines = horizontal sync off . mitsbishi always seemed to have this problem .. on the older sets I would take the back off and inside deep on the board i would adjust a pot and sync it right .... and never had a recall, maybe your newer model has this too .. this little control,

but its a horizontal sync problem.

if no change the horizontal processing ic.

SOURCE: blue screen with flickering horizontal lines

Sounds like the 1000uf capacitors on the FMT board need replacing. This is a common symptom with that chassis. There are three 1000uf caps that fail on that PC Board

SOURCE: Mitsubishi TV had horizontal lines across the screen and rolls up

Answer
ONE: Yes, the speaker mounted close/near to the set can be a cause of mischief; please move it further away and see if that helps clear up the problem. But, you must keep it away for several days before you will know for sure because it takes some time to degauss all the internal parts that may have become corrupted by the magnets in the speaker.

TWO: Yes, any set can be repaired the question is cost and wisdom. Old sets are sometimes not worthy of the repair simply because of the likelyhood that another failure will follow soon after. A big screen always invokes a repair charge of $200 and up. After a few of these you will wish you had put all the money into a new set!

THREE: The lines are most likely a problem in the vertical blanking circuits of the set. These are horizontal retrace lines that are supposed to be blanked out during vertical retrace of the raster. Think of it as a paintbrush that scans across the screen painting thin lines and when you get to the bottom of the screen it goes quickly back to the top, but during that time the horizontal, which is many times faster, has made several sweeps; so it must be blanked out during the retrace. The repair involves finding the guilty parts and replacing them. Usually this repair runs over the $200 somewhat.

FOUR: Prior to calling in a service tech try a hard reset to see if that will recover any of the circuit degradations. Merely unplug the power cord and leave unplugged for 4 hours or more. It may help. Or, it may not help; but worth a try since is won't cost you anything.

If the set is over 5 or 6 years of age it probably is not a condidate for any expensive repair. On the other hand, it is a Toshiba - and they make a fine set.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further thoughts.

SOURCE: Black horizontal lines. Looks like I am looking through venetian blinds

OK this problem is caused by a failing electrolytic capacitor back in the power supply. It's job is to filter AC interfence from that voltage source. Locating the correct capacitor is something not for a do-it-yourselfer. A respectable tv shop experienced with Mitsubishi tv's can usually repair this problem in your home. Average repair cost would be between $200 and $300.

White horizontal lines covering picture on Toshiba 51HC85

The set uses a Hyper board inside that processes all signals, it is well known for this issue, board no longer available=reason is quite simple : about a dozen tiny surface mounted filter caps on that board with age dry out, at first it will work after warms up as poor caps regain some capacitance and seem to be ok.

Buy a new set, you can send that board out and have it repaired/rebuilt but the last one I saw which was under extended warranty cost about 200 just for the board rebuild.

In the last 4 years Here on Fixya I have encountered only 2 people who were able with instructions had the skill to remove the board and replace those caps, both were top notch computer repair techs.

Black screen with bright horizontal line through center

Your vertical IC may need resolder. You may have a bad capacitor or two that created an extra warm IC and create bad grounds. So resolder and check those caps near and around your vertical IC. If you continue to see this horizontal line you may have to replace the vertical IC. And you may as well check all grounds as well. Good Luck and be careful!

Horizontal Line through middle of TV screen

This is usually a bad elect capasitor or a bad solder connection on the vertical IC, The capasitors will be close to the vert chip..Sometimes you can clear problem with a light tap on the TV, if so then suspect bad solder.

KV36XBR400 fragmented picture horizontal overlapping lines

this will continue to degrade, almost any failure that can be affected or temporarily cleared up by hitting the set is caused by bad solder joints.

A good shop should be able to find and fix the bad solder connections for probably a little under $100
if you bring it to them and pick it up.
