Thank you for your answer. You know, I asumed that the battery may be damaged by use, and replaced it with a new one, and also replace the external source and charger. So, without battery, only on AC, the laptop works, whith AC and the old battery, it didn't start; with AC and the new battery, it starts and boot normally, the system recognize the battery and inform that it's charging (it remains still in 0%) but after a while -around 20 minutes- the system shuts off suddenly and alone. I guess there is a problem with the internal charging system.
    Again, thank you!

Possible broken laptop batteries. Acer Trafelmate 290 (year 2003 production), has a battery that can last 3 years (source: CNET Reviews). So it's possible your battery damaged, due to age factor.

The solution:
Alternative 1 (battery removed)
Turn on the laptop without the battery

Alternative 2 (insert the battery)
Because the battery is damaged and causes an error if installed, you must remove the gold coating on the battery. The battery, there is a thin plate-shaped connector, gold-colored. Remove the layer of gold, to disable the battery. So the battery is installed without the connector.

Alternative 3 (buy a new battery)
Price of new battery, $28.89. You can check at Amazon.com

Ausus U50A power tansition problem

If you are saying your laptop shuts down when you remove the power cord then that's a sign that your battery is dead.

Batteries only have a useful life, then after that they have to be replaced. Once the useful life is up, most times the battery will not take a charge.

Some batteries will take a charge and say they are at 100% but as soon as you remove the power cord it doesn't take long before it is drained at 0%.

I have a HP Omnibook vl6200 running WinXP Pro. Works properly on the AC power, but shuts down if AC power is removed. Installed a new battery pack and battery monitor software showes battery is fully...

The first thing is to check if your battery is still okay by taking it off then measuring if it has some electric charge. If you are able to use a measuring meter then that's super but if you are not able to you can use a 24V truck light bulb and connecting with 2 wires to the positive and negative side of the battery. If it lights up brightly then the battery is okay. If it's got no electric charge then there are two possibilities either the battery is not okay or the charging system of the laptop is not working. Supposing your battery is okay. Then you need to have your laptop checked on the charging system. Remember laptop batteries do not last forever they actually deteriorate to until they are completely unrechargeable. So the Battery is my prime suspect.

Nc6000 when ac disconnected, computer shuts down even though battery charged 100%

Hello, if on XP, go to control panel and open up 'Power Options' and look to increasing the 'Running on batteries' settings. However, you don't say whether it will power up without the mains connected...if it doesn't then maybe you've a bad/poor battery connection, ie it will display a voltage to the monitoring system, but won't allow any current to be drawn....this could be due to a bad connection so it may be worth removing the battery, taking a look at the connectors (maybe wipe them clean) and then refit and try again. Best of luck Nicam49

My lenovo G550 appears not to charge when the charger is plugged in despite turning the mains power on and off to see if power is getting though and the blue neon light showing on the mains...

Hi m529,

I see you are having issues with you G550 charging.

You mentioned that the light on the charger is lit up but then it suddenly switches Off, and you also mentioned that the charge still has a light but the power is somewhat low despite of a fully lit up charger Light.

Have you tried draining the power from the system?

  • Remove the battery and the Charger or AC Adapter as well call it from the G550 then press and hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds to drain power from the system motherboard.
  • Once drained connect the AC adapter but do not connect the battery yet, then turn the Laptop ON to see if the system will power ON using the AC adapter/Charger if it powers up then there is no problem with the AC adapter/charger.
  • After testing the AC adapter if it is working power down the Laptop doing a normal shut down.
  • Once shut down or turned Off insert the Battery back in the Laptop then turn the Laptop ON using the battery only without the AC adapter/charger see if the system will turn ON using the Battery only.
  • If the Laptop powers On using the battery alone with out the AC adapter then the battery is most likely working as well on the issue.
  • Now power down the Laptop then connect the AC adapter to the Laptop with the Battery in the Laptop as well then turn the system ON again see if the problem will Occur again having the battery and the AC adapter/charger if the Problem happens with both Battery and AC adapter on the Laptop then the problem is the Motherboard, most probably the motherboard is having issues relaying power from the AC adapter to the battery and may be sent to the Depot for repairs.
I suggest that you call Lenovo for further information about your system, if you still have warranty and is still in the one year period then your system will be covered for any repairs needed - you can call @ 1 877 453 6686 for troubleshooting, you will be asked for a serial number Located underneath the Laptop on a small white sticker that states s/n meaning serial number.

I hope that this Helps.

Have a nice day,

mvincentc
