I have lost my insruction book for using my PENTAX OPTIO 550 CAMERA. HELP!

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

have you tried changing the camera's settings back to default? in the camera's menu, find 'reset settings' or 'factory settings' or something like that to reset the camera settings.. you might have messed with some settings, otherwise it may be hardware failure, may be the LCD of your camera.. hope not so.. lol

I have lost my cd for my optio s5i pentax camera and have a new laptop how can I get another cd or download software so I can transfer photos onto my laptop

My 550 developed the same problem in 2005. I found mentions online about wiring coming loose from the circuit board due to heat exposure. Some felt it was a defect Pentax should have fixed free, others admitted they may have left the camera in hot cars, etc. I got a new camera but always wanted to get the 550 fixed as it is a really sweet camera when it was working. Brokencamera.com says they can fix for between $70-$100. I think I'm going for it.
