2008 Polaris Rzr has a known issue with the under-seat location of the voltage regulator. In that location it can't get enough air flow to keep cool. When overheated it protects itself by shutting down. During these periods you are running off the battery instead of the stator & regulator--this is what kills your battery and strands you far from the road.
Polaris corrected this in 2009 and newer by moving the regulator up front behind the grille but did nothing for 2008 owners. You can cut/splice an extension or buy one online. Google "Rzr regulator relocation".
If your atv has been sitting this long, the carb is probably stopped up internally... take the carb to a qualified professional and have it cleaned and set...(take a few pictures so you know where all the hoses re-attach)
ALL it takes for an engine to run is:
1. A timed spark
2. Adequate compression
3. Proper fuel/air ratio delivered
Try disconnecting the battery for a few days then check to see if it's still charged. If it is, then a problem with the ATV wiring is draining the battery. If it loses its charge while unhooked, the battery needs replaced.
this helps to also check wiring status of vehicle diveablity being an off-road should be normally attended, looking for chapped insulation, worn spots, loose connectors, and faulty splicesthat could be hidden causing shorts, low voltages and major break-downs on the times your far from home. remove body work if at all posible to see better, then trace the wiring harrness from positive battery post to the items getting power. distribution center with fuses/breakers are located thereusally high and a dry location, uderseat, center of frame, behind plastic side-covers, close to battery, starter and charging harness or call a POLARIS shop!
if you let vechicle set battery will run down.not in month time frame, if you going let it set either crank vechicle let idle keep battery charged or disconnect battery if vechicle going to set for long time period,i would keep battery charged up using battery charger.
Try charging the battery first. Hook up to another vehicle and let them sit connected for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, then try starting it. If that makes any difference at all...keep charging. If theres no difference, replace the battery.
replace your battery, a battery discharges every day you dont run the alt. to charge it up... after a week or 2 weeks the battery would be dead, just from a car sitting not being started... if you are not using the vehicle, it is a good thing to replace the battery, and every couple days just start the car up and let it run a while to charge the battery.... if you are going to have to leave the car for a while without starting it, then disconnect the battery, and remove it from the vehicle... you can buy a cheap trickel charger for the battery when it is out that will keep it charged till you decide to put it back in.... hope this helps you...
