With regards to the internet, thats likely the connection, but Virgin should be able to give you an exchange test account to verify whether it's at your end or theirs. The only thing I can think of for you to try is, boot into your computers BIOS and ensure the onboard audio is NOT disabled. Then; 1. Load the motherboard CD 2. See if you can locate the audio drivers 3. Launch the installer Or 1. Boot into safe mode 2. Launch the setup from the download URL I last gave you for the drivers If neither of those work, I'd be inclined to think you've got a problem with the onboard audio, in which case, I'd suggest trying an external card.
Sorry for not being clear. To boot into Safe Mode, tap F8 whilst the computer is loading, until the boot menu appears.
To access the BIOS, you'll need to tap either of the following (the key depends on the board and varies somewhat) as soon as the machine is turned on;
Del
F2
ESC
F11
F10
DEL amd F2 are the most common.

Replacing it is not too much trouble for an experienced cell phone technician. But, it's not for anyone who doesn't like to tinker with small things. Here's a video demonstrating the entire process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJpHHs9QM5U.
