Tip & How-To about Technics SA-DA8 Receiver

Keeping your SA-DA8 cool

When I first bought this I noticed that it runs very hot even on low volume levels. I took it in for repair and told the tech that the fan didn't come on even when hot. He said "works as designed - the fan is output-power-driven, not temperature driven."

Wishing to prolong the life of ma SA-DA8, I used an old computer power supply and muffin fan. Plugged the PS into the controlled AC output of the amp, and the fan into the PS. Jumpered the "power-on" pins of the PS. Laid the fan on top of the amp, padded with some foam tape, and it now stays a lot cooler (and the fan is very quiet, though not silent.)

Frigidaire freezer that will not get colder that -5 to -7 C. I replaced thermistor, defrost thermostat and control panel. A repair tech has said the compressor is good. what I am missing?

you may need a check Freon level to see if its low , usually if u have low Freon level you can touch the condenser fan rails and they should be cold because when it has Freon and it liquefies into gas it creates heat hence the coils will then get warm and hot, if they are hot or warm it may not be a low Freon level issue? I would also check the freezer thermistors , see pics there may be more than 1 thermistor in freezer section , u can also check the compressor ur self to verify as not all appliance techs are reputable or knowlagable

Cooling fan/ Radiator indicator

I would recommend first to check the coolant level. If the coolant level is too low it can cause the fan to run if it detects too low of a coolant level. Also, the low warning can be a result of a low level. Make sure to check the level with the engine cold, and not running.
