Hi, Pam. I feel your pain! I had a Literati for about two years, and when it died a couple of months ago I pounced on a new one from a reseller. Alas, the Literati website no longer exists, so the new reader tries and tries to retrieve that critical update but always fails. Too bad, because the reader as shipped is very buggy (doesn't have all the font sizes/options, can't log in to Kobo [I can't select the login button once I've put in my password], can't even recognize the SD card). Calls to Sharper Image booted me to Kobo; Kobo's very nice e-mail said that they can't help with hardware problems and gave me the MerchSource website, along with a couple of phone numbers. The MerchSource website gives only a phone number--for Kobo. So I called.
I just got off the phone with a very friendly young man who informed me that, sadly, they do not have that software update lurking anywhere. He apparently scored a $10 Literati somewhere that he's experimented with so he could understand his customer calls, and the only thing he's found is this discussion
site. He says he's had good luck using Adobe Digital Editions (discussed on that site) to get things onto the reader. I haven't tried it yet (still at work), but there are detailed instructions given.
I hope this helps!
