Adjusting info display after battery disconnect

Every time I need to disconnect my battery for whatever reason, the information display does not work correctly. Specifically, the outdoor temperature just display three dashes "---" and the display does not show the air-flow pictures when I changed the fan settting or source. It does show the compass and the date/time but nothing more. It has always worked correctly before I had to disconnect the battery terminals for cleaning. A dealer service rep got it working for me the first time but now I can't remember what he did and the owner's manual says nothing about it. Anyone know how to reset the display??

Thanks!! D. Bond

I solved the problem by disconnecting the negative battery terminal while the key was in the ignition which did reset all the displays. All is working fine now. You may want to add this tip to your repetoire. Thanks for replying.

The instruments you talk of don't have a memory that retains info if the battery power is lost, the technician has a little back up power supply that goes in the cigar lighter to avoid this loss of memory.

2007 h3 radio not working and display time and "phone". if battery is disconnected it comes back on then goes right back after turned off and started back up.

1st mistake: you didn't get an H1 lol
2: Most modern cars have an anti-theft device installed in the radio. That means if the battery becomes disconnected for ANY reason your radio won't work without a special code being entered. Your local Hummer dealership should be able to provide you with a code. The code is NOT the same for every vehicle.

Airbag light comes on for no reason

Hello Eric,

No such thing as "no reason" I am afraid...!

Possible causes are: things being forced under the seats, esp when the seats are moved. Someone adjusting the drivers, or passenger seat to it maximum limit (either way). There are often wires under the seats/in the seat belt stalks that can get pulled causing the AB light to come on. You can check to make sure any under seat wires have not been disconnected, with the ignition OFF.

If nothing obvious get someone to read the codes out from the control unit, high resistance is a common problem. However, and this is VERY important, you SHOULD NOT attempt and work on any SRS/AB system unless you are qualified to do so and/or have the battery disconnected. EVEN WITH the battery disconnected, if you use a multimeter on ohms setting, you can trigger the SRS/AB and they are deployed with HUGE force, enough to kill or cause serious injury. Please DO NOT risk working on this system unless you are trained to do so.

The stereo display shows "COdE"

This problem generally occurs when the battery has been disconnected. What you will have to do is go into your owner's manual and call Honda USA for the program code. What you will need at the time of the call is vehicle's registration. The information you seek is in the owner's manual and don't forget to write the code down, just in case.

Multi-information display is blank

If you really plan on chasing this one down as a DIY project, you will need electrical diagrams from your car. You can find these and a whole lot of other information here:
Haynes Avalon service manual
Even if you don't care to do your own maintenance, you can get an idea of the potential cost of a repair by looking into the complexity of it before committing to a sky-high repair bill.
We have a Haynes in each of three vehicles and they have saved us time and money.
