Upgrading to windows 7

I have the upgrade disks from Acer to upgrade from vista home premium to windows 7 home premium and the upgrade will not complete. It always reverts back to the vista. I have had it for almost two years now so calling customer support doesn't seem to be an option.

Is there no error log, e.g. in the windows home directory or per Admin Tools/ Log Viewer / By Time Run, and indeed no sign of its reversion to Vista (per Computer Management in preferences, I take it?)
Perhaps it requires a bit of simplification in attached drives, etc. before it can complete...if only there were a bit more info.

When you first boot from the win 7 disc there is a option to format or delete a partition.Do both. This will erase all vista information and allow only win7 to be installed.

I could not upgrade neither windows XP, Windows 7 of this Product Model: GT5662. Would you assits? Thanks.

Hello kelvinvu, according to the information that I gathered from this computer model, it has Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed on it. Windows XP is an older operating system so you can't "upgrade" to it. You could however install a fresh copy (more likely completely erasing all your previous information on vista and data files) or you could upgrade to Windows 7. Since you are using "Windows Vista 32 bit home premium", you have to upgrade to "Windows 7 32 bit home premium" or better. So if you were trying to "upgrade" to Windows 7 Home Basic, it will not allow that since it considers that a downgrade in the Operating System. You should actually be able to pop in the Windows 7 Home Premium CD while vista is running and start the upgrade process pretty painlessly that way. Just access the CD and walk through the menus for upgrading Vista to Windows 7. As a reminder, you must use the 32 bit discs. If you try and use the 64 bit discs (a different operating system as far as windows is concerned) you will have to go through the same process of installing a new version of windows (not upgrade). I hope this has solved your specific problem kelvinvu, have a great day!

I have the acer5715/5315 series abd it crashed. I had it fixed and the guy put windows 7 so now none of my acer programs work. How can I get these to work with windows 7

Operating System Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2
Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Starter

1. Before upgrading to windows 7, you must check the specification of your acer aspire 5315.

2. Windows 7 is better than windows vista but if you are really wanted those acer programs to work. You have to downgrade your operating system from your previous operating system.

Can i update window 7 ? now i hv window XP is there any effect of my files available in system during downloading wndow7

Windows 7 does not allow an upgrade from Windows XP. You would have to upgrade to Vista first and then on to 7. Also, it depends on which Vista you have that will determine which Windows 7 you can upgrade to. If you have Vista Home basic for instance, you cannot upgrade to Windows 7 Premium or professional. It is really screwed up. You can however do a clean install but you will lose all your old files unless you back them up on an external drive before running the new OS.

My Acer aspire x3200 Home Premium will not let me upgrade to windows 7 home premium.Installation failed.

Sometimes you're better off to uninstall the old OS, and then install the upgrade. If you have files to save, store them on removable media, then format the drive, then install the upgrade. During the process, it will ask for the VISTA product key, and the windows 7 product key

I need a serial number from a acer notebook running windows vista premium/home premium. Mine is a 751h and runs basic, so they won't ship me the free upgrade. However, there are videos all over the...

The free upgrade is sent out by the laptops manf. directly to you as long as you bought the laptop in the past 4 months. It is regardless of the current version of Windows Vista that you are running. According to an article found here

"Acer says "shipments will begin in increments. All orders will be handled on a first-in, first-out basis." So if you bought a computer last week, you could be at the end of a long line."

Best you can do at the moment is just wait, your not going to be able to do much till Acer ships out that upgrade. Even if you did install Windows Vista Premium, you would be stuck till you got the Windows 7 from the manf.

How to upgrade from Vista Basic to Vista Premium.

You need a Vista premium disk to upgrade to Vista premium.

Just instert the Vista premium disk and start the installation.

If installation does not start, you will need to boot from setup CD, sometimes you have to change the bios boot sequence in bios settings, to start the installation from CD.
