Esp c310 will not print in black even though the black is half full and the color is more than half full

If the ink cartridges and printhead are already in the printer, remove them, then reinstall them.

1. Remove the color and black ink cartridges.
2. Remove the existing printhead by lifting the latch in the center of the carriage. ESP 3, 5, 7, 9, 3250, 5250, 5210,
   ESP Office 6150, 7250, 9250;
   HERO 7.1, 9.1, OFFICE HERO 6.1 ESP 1.2, 3.2, 3.2s, C110, C310, C315,
   ESP Office 2150, 2170;
   HERO 3.1, 5.1
3. Close the printer access door.

Does it hapends with all the documents or only one ?
The text or graphics might be too large ?
have you tried to set the margins ?

Copy machine makers are notorius for forcing users to use a bit of the more expensive color mixed in with black. I can't print in black, it is called greyscale, therefore it has color in it. If you only print in greyscale, you'll notice your color cartridges going lower over time.

under warranty get help from a warranty call from an authorized service agent

Even though the interface says the cartridge is full, if the printer detects it being empty, odds are you will have to replace the color cartridge, even though you are only printing black.
You can try taking the cartridge out and cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser and reseat the color cartridge. If no change, replace the cartridge.

Different printers will work differently, even within the same brand, like your Kodak Printer for instance.

Some printers will work with a black cartridge only without the color, and some printers need both color and black and white cartridges to be filled in order to work at all.

It's just a design thing.

The Kodak printers are designed in such a way so as to work with combination of Both color and black ink..In other printers,the prints are not that sharp,but In kodak printers color are awesome because even if we print black and white,the color from the color ink is also taken to give you those lifetime prints.Unfortunately There is no way to overcome this ink indicator.You cans et the preferences in the printer settings to print in black and white in your computer .

clean the sensor pads on the cartridge and also on the printer as these can be causing the malfunction .
It pays some times to run a magnet on the cartridge terminals prior to use and during the malfunction as it reset the sensors
