Can you hear the engine humming when you plug it in? if so, that eliminates electrical supply to the engine.

If you manually turn the flywheel towards you does the loopers and needles move through a stitch sequence? If yes, then its not the main drive gears inside. If there is no movement or if a looper just "flops" around, you've got an internal drive problem, probably time to take it to a technician.

Lastly, check that the looper cover and side cover are fully closed as they will have safetly cutouts on the doors that prevent the machine from operating when the door is still not fully closed.

    Thanks for your prompt response.
Hi there, my sister says she cant hear engine humming when plugging in and turning on power, but the light turns on when power switch is on. She can manually turn the fly wheel and complete the sequence and the covers are all closed. Any ideas?

I think she needs to take it to a service centre as it may be electrical problem inside the machine and just replacing the foot control may not solve it. A Janome shop should be able to plug it into one of their foot controls and if it runs, then it is definitely the foot control. If it doesn't, then they'll need to take a look at it internally to diagnose the problem.

Of course you could buy a new foot pedal for it if you are in USA from sewingpartsonline $49. Of course if the machine is 240V then you will need to buy a 240V foot control for it. But if this isn't the cause then it would be wasted money so probably best to take it to a technician now.

Another expert may know more about the foot controls than me and chime in of course.

There is probably a bad connection in your foot pedal. Try moving it around with your hands at the contact points while pressing to activate. If it goes when you are shifting its position then it needs to be fixed or replaced.

If this machine is new and you have checked in your manual and are convinced you are doing everything correctly, I suggest a phone call to the shop where you bought it first, they may offer a solution straight away or have you come in to the shop to show them the issue...if it is a fault they are best placed, and obliged, to resolve it for you

i suggest you get a tech to re-time your machine. timing is complex on an overlocker and if not done correctly you will probably break a looper.
