Epson Stylus DX5050 printer malfunction in scanning
When I try to scan a document only the top left hand side of the page is scanned and printed out. It prints perfectly well from the computer. Could you please tell me why this happens?

First of all make sure you have connected your printer to your computer correctly. Then you click your printer icon either from your desk top or from control panel. You will get a page with various selection. If you want a document to scan, you click the document to file and you will see at right hand bottom page scan. You click on scan and it will scan. Make sure your printer in on and the printer cable is connected at USB port or the correct printer port. Some people connect it to Ethernet cable port!
Once it finished scanning you can either add page or save it with whatever name you wish to give.
after reading the manual, http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/2400/ug_en.pdf, yes it is possible - not that it tells you how to do it though so read on. Until you become familiar with the process just use one sheet of paper at a time in the printer. As you know, in the scanner the top right of your document goes to the right hand front corner of the scan bed (the clear window), place the page on the scanner and scan. Pick up the printed sheet of paper and flip it so the left hand side edge is now in your right hand and the right hand edge is now in your left hand and you are now looking at the blank side of the paper. Insert the page back into the sheetfeeder. Flip the page to copy in the scanner so the rearmost edge of the paper is now to the front of the scan bed and the front edge of the paper is now towards the rear (you should now be looking at the page you scanned previously). Scan the page. you should have now scanned both sides of one sheet of paper to another sheet of paper. as your printer does not have a sheet feeder for the scanner you have to do the process manually. hope this helps.
You can scan multiple pages of a document on the document table and save them as one PDF file on your computer. Epson Scan displays an editing page so you can view the pages as you scan them and reorder, rotate, or delete them as necessary.
Select PDF as the file type setting.
When prompted "scanning complete. Do you want to continue" Click "add page"
It depends somewhat on your OS and the software installed you have installed. With a Automatic Document Feed, the pages need to be face up and the top edge forward in the feeder. On the glass platen, put the documents face down.
Open a TWAIN-compliant scanning application (XP, Vista and Win7 all have Paint which can acquire scans). Vista and Win7 also have Windows Fax and Scan. If you installed other software (such as that which came with the scanner), you would use that - Epson Smart Panel or ArcSoft Photo Impressions. Next open Epson Scan (this doesn't work with the Mac software so look at epson.com for Mac info). This runs the scan (and any specific resolution adjustments you make). It will generally launch when you hit Scan in the application. You can run Epson Scan alone if you do not want to edit the documents right away. Click Start > All Programs > Epson Scan > Epson Scan to use Epson Scan. In the Epson Smart Panel, you would click Scan and Save to start scanning or Scan with Options to adjust the settings prior to scanning.
If the Epson Smart Panel is installed and set up for it (including having a monitor running), you can also initiate scans from the scan button on the unit. Scan problems most often occur when there is a block in two-way communication. Try a new data cable and a different port. If you have a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection. The cable should be under 6' long for best results.
download the scanner driver first then try to scan
ckick on mac harddrive, applications, epson scan,
go to home mode (upper right side)
put a document on top of the glass
click preview, image will show up
click scan, file save settings, click ok
There is 4 buttons on the left hand side of the unit, these are for copying only. the scanning component of you printer is software driven. You will need to have setup the Epson scanning utilities on your computer. These came with the printer when you purchased it, however are also available for download from Epson in your country / region. Just go to www.epson.com and select your country and download the scanning utilities for your printer.
