this is caused by a bad connection, or a faulty back light. It is also something you should have a local repair man have do for you if you are not "tech savvy".

Back-light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Do you get backlight? If so for how long? If it is there for a brief moment then goes out, you have a bad panel. If it is always on it could be your T-con board. ( main board if your unit doesn't have a T-con )
If it never comes on at all you could have a bad power supply. Check to see if you are getting 24 volts to the inverter. If you are then you have a bad inverter. Hope this helps.

I called Sharp and determined that the TV was not worth the cost to fix it so I didn't need a technical solutions. Thanks.
