Hi Benjamin,

Kenwood TK-2200. The light comes on when you press PTT button, indicates you are transmitting.

The light goes out when you release the PTT button, if itgoes out during transmission, but your message gets through to your contact, then I don't see the problem.

If the light goes out during a transmission and you are still able to communicate, Don't worry, be happy, it's just a minor glitch with the light, no the radio.

As you haven't given me the details that I have guessed for you, I hope I have been helpful.

Cheers,
Peter

SOURCE: transmission problem

Hi,

A couple of things you can try:
1. Use electronic contact cleaner (spray type) on the PTT switch;
2. Use an external speaker/microphone and/or handsfree VOX headset
3. Replace the PTT switch. 4 solder points. Might not be easy but doable.

The last would require that you remove the defective PTT switch and use that as per sample when looking for replacement. Some printers uses the same type of switch. Familiarity with electronic components/circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would also be required.

Hope this be of some idea/help. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

I have this Kenwood TK-2107 .... when the ptt button is depressed the transmit led lights up but it does not transmit. Why is that, any good tips?

The output transistor could be bad. the Xmit relay could have burned contacts or is not operating at all.

Can't transmit signal. Only get a 2 second beep when I push the transmit button

You have a poorly charged or bad battery. It takes more power to transmit than to receive. Usually the first thing you lose with a low, bad or poorly charged battery is transmit.

Try a known good battery in the radio. This should solve the problem. If not, check your battery contacts, as you may have one which is bad or not making good contact.

Clean your contacts with a pencil eraser to assure good connection with the charger.

Best regards.

I bought additional kenwood tk 2100 radios and they are not sending the signal to my existingones. The fcc numbers and interior tk numbers are the same. How to I get them on the same frequency.

To change the channel frequencies on your TK2100, simply press and hold the PTT switch ("talk button") and Monitor key, then turn the power on. Now press the PTT switch again. The light should change from orange to red and a beep should sound. Next, adjust the channel switch to the channel you wish to program. Now simply press the PTT button to choose between 4 to 8 possible frequencies, depending on your model.

Makes loud tone when pushing ptt button

The ptt switch or circuit is not disconnecting the audio circuit. Open the unit up and check the wiring, interconnect plugs for something shorted not canceling the receiver audio.

Makes loud tone when pushing ptt button

If it's a distinct "tone" like 1000Hz, it's probably mis-programmed. Check www.mods.dk. You may find a manual there.

Tk-3100

Hi Tucaraca.

With the radio OFF, switch to CHANNEL 1, press the SQUELCH and the PTT at the same time. Turn ON the power switch while keeping the PTT and SQUELCH until the LED indicator turns RED.

Release the buttons and then press the PTT to CHANGE the FREQUENCY.

Press the PTT once each time until you get to the right frequency you desire. The 8 standard frequencies are as follows: 464.500, 464.5500, 467.7625, 467.8125, 467.8500, 467.8750,467.9000 and 467.9250 MHz. Once you get to the frequency you use, wait a few seconds and listen for the confirmation tone. Each frequency has a different confirmation tone so take note in case you need to program a second radio.

After you hear the confirmation tone, press the SQUELCH to confirm, and then press the SQUELCH again to lock the new frequency. Wait until the LED turns off, then switch off your radio.

Same procedure for CHANNEL 2.

WARNING: You must be legally licensed to use any frequency on any PLMRS such as the TK-3100 series. You must also apply for FREQUENCY COORDINATION and submit FCC form 601. FCC can impose steep fines and imprisonment if they catch anyone using an unlicensed radio on a controlled frequency. Visit FCC.GOV for more information.
