In garage/works perfectly/slow leak coming from an insulated hose that goes directly into the bottom of the freezer itself.

The hose coming from the bottom of the freezer is draining the melted water produced during the automatic defrost cycle. Usually the water is collected in a pan somewhere around the hot compressor motor so the heat can evaporate the water.

The hot copper tube by the compressor is the high pressure tube going to the condenser. The other tube going to the compressor is the return line from the evaporator and, after normal operation, is cold to the touch. It is this cold refrigerant returning to the compressor that cools the motor.

I have a ge GSH25JFXB WW side by side frig that was hit by a power surge. now, it does not cool like it use to. both the freezer and frig and warmer than before even when you turn it on full blast. they...

Start by checking the compressor. If it is running, you should tell by it being warm and a slight vibration/hum....it will start and should run until thermostat stops it. Since it's not cooling, it should be running all the time. There are 2 copper or stainless tubes entering the compressor. One should be hot;the other cold. If both are same temp,or the compressor not running,or is hot to the touch, your compressor is done for(some have a removable connector with contacts that are replaceable) Compressors aren't cheap.

Hot point Manufactured by GE MD# HSS25GFPE WW Not Cooling Fridge or Freezer.

Is compressor (black canister)running? It should be very warm if it is. If not, motherboard is most likely bad.

My refrigerator freezer does not cool below 70 degrees. I just relace the start relay and now the compressor runs but the condensor fan won't work unless i give it a little spin.

Lubricate the condensor fan with a parifin based oil like Union 76 turbine oil or "Zoom Spout" oiler. These fans are notorious for the bearings drying up on them.

Being careful.... touch the compressor copper lines. One should be very warm almost Hot to the touch.
Also with the unit unplugged..... note that there is a coolant drier with a small capillary tube coming out of one end. Tap the side of this by holding a hammer handle (wood) against it and hit it on the side with a screw driver handle.

Check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment is also running when the compressor is on. Anytime the compressor is running BOTH fans must be running. If you can not get the condensor fan up to full speed you will note that the chassis around the door seal area will be quite warm almost hot to the touch and the unit will not be cooling properly. Just for troubleshooting.... direct a fan at the condensor coils and see if the freezer compartment gets cold and that the chassis around the door seals is just warm.

Note about compressors in general.... if you unplug a unit.. it must settle / stabilize for 15 - 20 minutes so that the compressor can restart. Any power off periods less than 15 mins will result in the compressor cycling via the thermal overload every 4 minutes or so... and it does not run for more than 40 seconds when the overload kicks off the PTC relay power.

If you never feel the copper line off of the side of the compressor get hot then the unit has lost coolant.

Cabinet flanges and mullion very hot to the touch and not cooling at all, model ed25qf

turn your frig off as soon as possible! this is an easy fix but if it goes to long it can cause permanent damage to the compressor and then you have a huge repair bill, or a big piece of trash :(

What has happened is this:

There is a fan called the condenser fan that blows air across the compressor to keep it cool. This fan has stopped working for some reason and now the compressor is VERY hot. When this happens it stops running and you get zero cold produced.

The reason the mullion is hot is because there is tubing connected to the compressor that is run through this area for condensation prevention purposes. When the condenser fan stops working, this tubing gets much hotter than normal, and that is what you are feeling.

So, replace the condenser fan motor before the compressor gets to hot that it damages itself! If I can be of further help please let me know, good luck friend!

Kenmore Coldspot side by side fridge/freezer no longer cold.

The black thing is the compressor. It should run warm but not hot. This usually indicates it's time to clean the condenser coils under the refrigerator. Try using a long soft brush and your vacuum cleaner.
