Toaster left hand side toaster does not stay in the down position but the element does heat up. This applies to all selection made and the red light selection comes on

It sounds like to me that the spring lock mechanism is worn out, here is a site to check out that will help you trouble shoot and even able to possibly fix it.

Ours did this after 5.5 years! so I cut the cord off and gave it to the kids for a toy, then bought a new one for less than $85

Kitchen aid toaster won't stay down, heats when held down, but only on bagel setting. Checked crumb tray but all clean. What to do?
Contacts may be coated with Burt oil, butter, other matter. When engaged, contacts aren't engaging.

The left side of the toaster does not stay engaged...if I hold it down it heats up but it doesn't stay down ..it doesn't catch.
There are two printed circuit boards inside front of toaster - One PC board for each side. The circuit board on the side that won't latch down in the "toasting" position , is defective. Now, does anyone have access to a schematic for this toaster?

Problem with the CUISINART RBT-450BKPC costco toaster
We had exact the same problem. Our problem was within the circuit board controlling the release relay, on the left side. 3 parts was dead:
1) rectifier diode 200V 1amp
2) Electrolytic capacitor 220uF 25V
3 Zener diode 12V 1W
These components supplies 12VDC to the rest of the circuits from the mains, 127 VAC.

Lever wont stay down, no red light
Two possibilities:
1:A wire has come off your toaster switch or plug top,shorted and blown the fuse, and all you would need to do was refit wire and replace fuse.or
2:The element has gone........probably cheaper to buy a new one

Our 4-slice toaster (model 4cbc) is only toasting part of one side of the toast, as if a heating element has burned out.
Inside your toaster there are eight heating element plates six in the center and one in left end and one in right end.
Just switch on the toaster without any bread at maximum time and visualy inspect to see which side is becoming red and which not. Then you need to replace the element plates you see that they don't become red.
Remember that the two in center are the same called "CENTER" and the other two on ends are the same called "END"
They can easily be removed if you remove the bottom panel.

The toast gets done on one side and not the other
No way to replace it your Dualit toaster is a toaster for life you just need to replace some element plates and this is normal every some years. My Dualit toaster is 18 years old I have replace a couple of times the element but is always working perfect and with st. steel finish look perfectly new and impresive.

Dualit 2 slice toaster
The top red button is the heating element selector.
If you push it to the left, only the left side is going to turn on.
Push it to the right and both of the heating elements will turn on.
Idea behind this comes from the commercial background where you save electricity on using only the elements that you need.
the bottom is simply a timer.
