Check fan operation. It should come on at approximately 102 degrees celcius.Which fan drive do you have? The older RAV 4 has a hydraulically driven fan while the later models have an electric fan. Both are "turned on by the computer". So check for the thermo sensor at the coolant outlet from the engine. As it gets toward boiling point you should find a lowered resistance of approximately 200 - 300 Ohms there. When cold these sensors run in excess of 2500 Ohms.On the older models with the hydraulic drive it is provided with hydraulic pressure from a pump in the transmission. Check for transmission fluid level and pump operation by loosening off the supply hose and starting the engine in neutral. If the pump is inoperative no oil will be supplied to the hydraulic fan motor. Happy hunting.

Toyota corolla is overheats what is problem

Need to check 4 things,
As their are no details about year or model I assume it is pre 80's and old school mechanical diagnostic is called for.
1. Condition of radiator fins be sure they are not blocked
2. Check flow of coolant May be a blocked thermostat.
3. Check condition of engine - oil too low can cause overheating.
4, Check level of coolant in radiator tank as opposed to coolant overflow. If you have a small leak, bad radiator cap or head gasket problem the expansion system will not replace coolant to tank allowing it to boil dry.

1998 toyota rav 4 that keeps overheating. I just replaced the thermostat

Thermostat may be installed upside down...this can cause overheat.
To test your engine...if you don't think thermostat is faulty, remove the thermostat.
This is sometimes called "running cold"...and it should not overheat. If it does, you have bigger problem than thermostat.
You can test thermostat too by placing it in hot water thats not quite boiling and see if its opening properly.

Hope this helps...

How to stop my toyota hi lux from overheating?

-First you have to check that all the radiator fans are running when the water temperature rise
-Then check the thermostat inside the thermostat housing, by removing it. When you soak it in the cold water, the valve should be close and when you soak it in the hot or boiled water, the valve should be open

1993 Toyota Tercel overheating when driving only

Make sure the radiator is clear of debris
Try a different coolant. Stay away from the Red stuff
When changinging the thermostant go for a 180 or less. It sounds like your thermostat open when it really heats up. Get a lower thermostat.

Toyota estima 2.2 td 1992 van overheating

the impellors in the water pump are prone to corrosion, especially if no or incorrect radiator additives have been used .this will cause water to stay in motor & boil whilst the water in the radiator stays cold because it cannot circulate.try flushing radiator ,installing a new thermostat (which is more than likely not opening )& radiator cap, refil with correct additive,.if the car still over heats then you will need to replace the water pump.bugger!!
