Chances are that the header or manifold is cracked. usually the heat exchanger themselves are not damaged from freeze, but either the rear manifold (header) or the front header (the one that pipes go in and out of). Sometimes both. Replacing the entire heater is not necessary, about $200 in parts usually. press the arrow key for 10 sec this will reset the heater. if code replace control board, if not enter time date and set temptures for pool and spa

I believe you may have a draft restriction and this may stop the start up diagnostics. The draft detection switch is sometimes restricted or weak. Common problem. Tap the gas valve to see if the winter has caused the valve to seat heavily and stick.
