Fix DVD/CD ROM to work Acer M1610, Computer not detecting DVD/CD ROM. No drive is seen how to fix this, what are my options. OS is Vista

Click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. or

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device

if it did turn off with a bsod(blue screen of death) then the problem was with ur hardware or the hardware drivers in this case the rom drive
consider a replacement of the drive if it's in warranty but before that try updating the drivers of the rom

you mean to say that CD drive is not detecting or CD not working?
In case CD drive not working, can you go to device manager (right clik my computer and go to manage, and select device manager) and check which symbol there it is

That is a Vista problem with ACER. Delete the reference in device manager and restart and let the comp reco0gnize and reinstall ...just follow the screen instructions.

There is a registry setting that needs deleting but only if this doesn't work.

plz check in the bios the cd rom is enable, then check the datacables try with a new data cable

Try to use another DVD. you told you tried you old DVD from your toshiba. maybe is not compatible.. try in another.. then use your DVD in another laptop if the same from problem.check your board and DVD connection...if this under warranty bring to warranty..

if in Bios also can not detect this is hardware problem...

My cd/dvd rom dont work coz the drive has change to another one.I think take windows xp/vista/7/8 with an usb and inslat it. When windows finished installing try to format it because the dvd and cd rom are fixed . Thnx

do you get an error 200 yet ? i got one here that does the same thing and its a bad motherboard. tried to replace cd drive and harddrive and was no help

the motherboard cost to much and not worth the part and labor

You need to boot with your windows vista cd and select repair install. This will reinstall the windows files, including the ntldr file, leaving your data intact. Make sure you only do the repair install, if you do the full install, it may wipe your data.

My Aspire 5100 not only looses the cdrom but also the hard drive! It sometimes beeps 3 times.. I'd go into set-up (BIOS) and niether the hard drive or dvd would be listed.. As a last resort, I flashed the motherboard bios with the latest version from Acer and so far the problem hasn't returned. I also set the laptop to hibernate after 30 minutes of non use when both on battery or on ac power. Reason? My problem always started when I left my laptop unattended for some time. When I'd return, the computer would be off.. not asleep or hibernating, but off - even though it was set to never turn off in the power settings in windows. When I'd turn it back on, that is when the hard drive and dvd rom would vanish in the BIOS. So as an added precaution, I set the laptop to always hibernate after 30 minutes.. Like I say, so far so good..
