Why won't my camera turn on?

I can turn on the camera with my favorites button and I can review from the area but when I try to turn it on to take a picture the camera shuts off.

My Kodak Easyshare V1253 also will not power up. The lens seems to fully exend, but then retracts almost immediately. I also can view my photos using the favorites setting, and my battery is fully charged. i also installed the firmware update by copying it to my memory card, and the camera did this with no problem. This camera has never been dropped or abused in any way, I only took about 300 photos before this problem occurred. I'm sure if i could find my receipt it would be covered by warranty, but no luck Help?!

I have hte same problem with this camera. I will be taking pictures with a fully charged battery and it just locks up. I've tried turning it off but sometimes it will not even shut off.

I have the same problem. My Lens retracts but then shuts down. I can only view my favorite photos. I bought mine through HSN and do not have the receipt and no one seems to know how to help.

Can't find pictures in internal memory

If you can connect the camera to your PC via a cable, normally USB, to browse the contents of the camera's internal memory then try simply to do a search on the camera's 'drive' for .png, .jpeg or .jpg, .bmp or any other filetype that your camera would use.
Your PC should be able to find any files using those file types and display them. From there you can copy or cut and paste them to a location on your PC's hard drive.
You may have to make sure that your computer has Show Hidden Files and Folders turned on under Folder Options.
Normally, a camera saves all videos and pictures in a folder called DCIM, even on internal storage.

Kodak EasyShare Z740 Turns Off Fix

Does your Kodak EasyShare Z740 Turns On Then Turns Off right away?
Does your Kodak EasyShare Z740 Turns Itself Off with new AA batteries in it?

Many of these Kodak EasyShare Z740 cameras that shuts off right away and will not stay on, will actually stay on if you select FAVORITES to view pictures, but just flash back and turn off if set to auto or camera mode. Try this.

If the lens cannot extend, the camera will turn itself off. You can try giving the camera a thump with the heel of your hand, but I would recommend servicing the camera rather than smashing a delicate digital instrument. After trying the steps below, a last chance alternative that works for some people is to grab and actually PULL the lens out as it tries to extend itself. Again, its delicate; if you can afford it, maybe pay for servicing before hitting and pulling on your camera.

However, before servicing your Kodak Z740 try this fix:

  1. Hold down the Time/Ascending Folder button (the button under OK on the circular panel)
  2. While holding that down, press and hold the ON/OFF button.
  3. The camera may turn itself on and stay on this time, acting normally again.

If this doesn't work for your try this:

  1. Hold down the '>' button (the one that brings you to picture review)
  2. While holding that down, press and hold the ON/OFF button.
  3. The camera may turn itself on and stay on this time, acting normally again.
If that doesn' t work, try again with the 'Trashcan' button, and ON/OFF button.

I hope that helps.

Low light

Yes that will happen if your camera is set for automatic.

Set your camera for manual by pressing the menu button.

You will have to tell it all of the conditions manually, such as ASA, lighting, and flash.

You can disable or control the flash by using the buttons located on the rear of the camera.

Dropped camera and it wont turn on

I had something similar happen to me, though the damage to mine just came from being in a high humidity environment.  Kodak has a "feature" that is designed to prevent you from causing further damage to the camera.  If there is no actual physical damage it is possible to reset the software but it seemed to involve some luck.

  1. First go to the Kodak web site and download the latest firmware update, and follow their instructions for method 2 (using the memory card).
  2. Here is the tricky part: Turn the camera on by pressing Favorites,  Review, On/Off.  I found that after a few somewhat random tries it started the Firmware upgrade by asking if you wanted to continue.  The answer is "YES!!!"
Once you do that your Camera should come back to life if you didn't do any other damage.

I'm sure there must be a way to do this without the tricky part, so I'd love to hear if anyone knows it.
