I have been using the camera for a few days in France and all was fine.
I downloaded video I shot unto my laptop via the proper firewire and worked fine.(During downloading the camera was using battery power only) I disconnected the firewire from the computer and then began to rewind the tape in the camera to the place I ended recording and it began to rewind when the viewer went blank and all power was lost to the camera (it was still on battery power) Thinking the battery was exhaused, I plugged the camera into the a/c outlet and still no power and the camera would not turn on again-tried a fresh recharged battery also and still no power. I read over the instruction booket to see if there was a reset button or perhaps a fuse that might need to be changed but could not find any info. We called Sharp repair in France and was told that it would take 10 or more days for them to look at the camera and possibly fix it which doesn't help me as I have 2 more weeks here in Europe for vacation and do not have a video camera to use now. I saw a small door above the a/c connection on the camera which has a screw like those on eyeglasses and thought perhaps inside is a reset button or fuse but I have not been able to find a screwdriver small enough to open it yet. I will try to find one today. I am hoping someone can give me some info so I can possibly get the camera working so that I can continue taking videos here in France, however if the problem is complex then I will wait to have it fixed in the USA.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN- THANKS SO VERY MUCH., DD.

So much to read through... but have you tried it with just the ac adaptor without the battery.... i'm wondering if the adaptor has failed due to the differences in voltage..... i presume you are using one of those travel adaptors with the camera adaptor as well. or failing that test the output of the adapter and compare it to the voltage it should be.
