ON VACATION IN FRANCE-CAMERA POWER WENT OUT-HELP !

I have been using the camera for a few days in France and all was fine.
I downloaded video I shot unto my laptop via the proper firewire and worked fine.(During downloading the camera was using battery power only) I disconnected the firewire from the computer and then began to rewind the tape in the camera to the place I ended recording and it began to rewind when the viewer went blank and all power was lost to the camera (it was still on battery power) Thinking the battery was exhaused, I plugged the camera into the a/c outlet and still no power and the camera would not turn on again-tried a fresh recharged battery also and still no power. I read over the instruction booket to see if there was a reset button or perhaps a fuse that might need to be changed but could not find any info. We called Sharp repair in France and was told that it would take 10 or more days for them to look at the camera and possibly fix it which doesn't help me as I have 2 more weeks here in Europe for vacation and do not have a video camera to use now. I saw a small door above the a/c connection on the camera which has a screw like those on eyeglasses and thought perhaps inside is a reset button or fuse but I have not been able to find a screwdriver small enough to open it yet. I will try to find one today. I am hoping someone can give me some info so I can possibly get the camera working so that I can continue taking videos here in France, however if the problem is complex then I will wait to have it fixed in the USA.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN- THANKS SO VERY MUCH., DD.

SOURCE: Vacationing in France-power to camcorder quit-battery & a/c non functioning

So much to read through... but have you tried it with just the ac adaptor without the battery.... i'm wondering if the adaptor has failed due to the differences in voltage..... i presume you are using one of those travel adaptors with the camera adaptor as well. or failing that test the output of the adapter and compare it to the voltage it should be.

Dismantle your unit .
Try to locate the power board. have a keen look at the components near the battery connector or the power connector. there you will be able to locate 3 to 4 safety fuses. check the continuity. if found open replace it and the problem can be solved.

Remove the flex ribbon connector of the motor from the pcb, then try giving 3volt supply from an external device to the motor in both the direction.

Could I use my battery charger in France

Yes and no, the charger will probably work with the voltage and frequency in France, but the plug will not, you need to buy a North America to France AC plug adapter. These can be had for a few dollars in most places. You might even find one at the airport, even if overpriced.

This is most likely a CCD problem that is being repaired free by Canon. I don't know where the French repair center is but you might find it on the internet. For more details about the free repair, go here: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

Posibley Broken LCD?

Use the viewfinder to take pictures on vacation, then have your camera looked at in a camera shop or repair shop to assess the damage. Might be cheaper to just get a new camera sometimes with labour costs and parts costs these days, but doesn't hurt to get it looked at for free!

In need of SERIOUS help with CD400 Battery, etc.

I don't know how long the battery lasts if you use the flash with every picture, but I do know that the CD400's battery charger can take 110 or 220 volts so you will be able to charge it in France with only a plug adapter.
