Recently I replaced a broken secondary fuse on the furnace and a thermostat for my Bryant Heating and Cooling System, and the LED showed a solid red light. However, when I tried to run the heating by turning the hermostat to auto, the LED turned off and there was a burning plastic smell, but the new fuse on the furnace and the new battery-powered thermostat, as well as the breaker for the furnace are still all intact. On the thermostat, I can only see A/C cool is on after switching to it, but after switching to heating, no sign was shown for it being on. Could you give me an educated guess as what could be wrong? Thank you!
I'm willing to bet a relay burned up. You likely have your tstat set to auto changeover, meaning it automatically goes from heat to cool to maintain desired set points??

SOURCE: air conditioning unit not cooling
the problem sounds like a defective capacitor its located on the condensing unit outside, also a contactor that is used can be defective also.
SOURCE: The furnace is blowing warm air even if the thermostat low.
The only thing that tells the unit to come on and off is the thermostat so I would definatly say it is it. When you turn the system back on, does the a/c run normally? If it does, then it's the problem with the heating side of the tstat. Also, does the fan come on when you put it to on and then turn of when you switch it back to auto? If it does, then the system is working fine, its the t-stat. Let me know if you have any more problems.

Sounds like your heating elements are coming on with the A/C This can be from an improperly wire thermostat or furnace.

Hi,
One of the limit switch in the furnace is tripped or went bad....
Try to find all of the reset switches and push the little red button on the top to reset them...
If that don't work you will need to take an electric meter and test each switch to see which one is bad...

Hello purrpplee - If the smell is coming out of the oven vent, more than likely it is something inside the oven that is creating the odor. Also, keep in mind that new cooking products can create a burning electrical odor when the bake and broil cycles are used as any residual coating or film on the oven liner and elements burns off. However, if odor increases consult a professional for an accurate diagnosis.
im assuming you are running a/c and not heat...Was the filter burning?? if not and there are no other obvious burnt wires then id say you need a new motor. The filter, if it was'nt binding the blower wheel or wrapped arround the motor shaft would not have caused the prob.
