Hello
No. Ofcourse not. What are you saying. Smoke over the TV!
Switch it OFF. There is something wrong with its internal circuit. Any capcitor or resistor burns. Cannot troubleshoot remotedly to this fault. Plasma TVs may heat up to an extent, and there will be fans at the top of them to **** out the heat produced while it works. Look, whther the fans are working. If not replace them or findount the reason.
A plasma Tv; whatever old it is; won't blow out smoke at all. OK.

My ten year old sony plasma tv has vertical herring bone lines no picture just color lines. Is my picture tube gone.

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.

How do I stop the static noise from my vizio tv?

At high altitudes all plasma tvs will emit a high pitch noise.
There's nothing you can do about it besides move or get a new tv. Plasmas just do this.

Plasma TV smell?

a smell from a plasma is usually a electrolytic capacitor leaking.  Luckily, replacing capacitors is very easy.  you can do it yourself if you have any skills at all, and if you can identify it.
just google what i am saying, you should be able to find the info you need to replace them.

Panasonic th-42px60u plasma tv not turning on

Power LED on front panel blinks several times, there is a delay, then repeats. After fiddling and fuming (mostly fuming) I found that changing the input signal source allowed the TV to be turned on. When I changed the input signal source back everything was ok.

In other words...

My TV is connected to my PC's video card via an HDMI connector. My card has 2 HDMI connectors. I moved the connector (the part that comes from my computer) from one HDMI out to the other. The screen powered up. When I changed the connector back to the original HDMI out I got my display back.

So yeah, try changing your input signal source. If you're using cable try switching to your Xbox/PS3/whatever, or vice versa. If you only have one possible signal source then I have no clue.

It's almost like the TV doesn't get any signal from the current cable then goes into sleep mode until it gets another signal. My problem had to do with me changing a bunch of sleep/timeout/screensaver settings on my TV/comp.

Hope this helps someone.
