I don't have a owners manual for a14SH654 singer serger, my sister in law gave me hers when she got a newone. My question is: Who do get a smaller stitch, I need to get a really short stitch, like a 1/8 inch?

If you mean you want to close up the density of the stitching then you change the setting on the stitch length knob which would be on the right side of the machine near to the flywheel. However, if you mean you want to make a narrower stitch width wise, then this is achieved by several adjustments. Firstly, if it s a 4 thread, then unthread the left hand needle so it is only making a seam with three threads, the upper and lower loopers and right needle. Test this seam and see if it is narrow enough.

If you want it narrower, then you need to move the position of the lower cutting blade to the left so the machine is trimming closer to the needle. Test again. If the stitches are now hanging off the cut edge a bit, then tighten up the upper and lower looper thread tensions by a half number and test again. You want the threads to meet right on the cut edge so if the top looper is rolling under to the bottom then tighten it up some more (higher number) in small increments, test stitching after every adjustment.

I hope this makes sense to you. You should be able to download a manual from the Singer website, link is http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals then type in just the number of your model and click "search" give the page time to build, then click on the "free download" button to bring up the pdf file, again give it time to load, its a large file. Then save to your PC.

How do you thread a singer serger 14U46?

Most Singer manuals are available here: https://www.singer.com/support . Searching just for 14 gave two pages of manuals with the manual for the 14U46B and 14U46 on the second page. The current link to the manual is https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-sewing/image/upload/fl_attachment/Singer-Website-Library/outdated_product/SINGER_14U46B_and_14U46_Serger_Overlock.pdf . The threading depends on your type of stitch. See page 9 for the steps common to all threading (raise the presser foot, change the thread tension). See page 11 (page 13 of the PDF) for the left looper path. The right and left needle threading is shown on page 12. If you are using a four-thread stitch, see page 15 for the right looper thread path.

I hope this helps. Check YouTube for videos on preparing a Singer serger. Those are often more useful than the manual's pictures.

Singer serger merrittlock14u44 makes a noise

Do you regularly oil your serger? Sergers need frequent oiling with fresh good quality sewing machine oil. Consult the owner's manual and apply 1-2 drops every place (usually where metal rubs against metal) indicated and do it frequently. Since your machine is older, it could probably use a good overall service from a technician involving disassembling and lubing the internal parts as well.
