Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP Console Logo
Anonymous Posted on Oct 15, 2011

I have a gameboy advance sp. It works really well for how old it is actually. The only problem is that the screen will no longer light up. When the screen first began messing up I could push the screen back fully and the light would come on. Now it does not come on. Can someone please tell me how you would fix this. Would it be best if I just bought a new screen?

Well its because the bulit in light bulb for the SP's back light to shine is basically
burned out by now so you will just have to buy a new SP then.

SOURCE: Will not play SP games

Did you clean the contacts on the game as well as the system? You may also try setting the GBA back to it's factory settings by turning it on and holding down L,R,A,B and Start

SOURCE: back light problem on the gameboy advance sp

sounds like a loose solder connection on the backlight. Your going to have to open the gba up and resolder the wires powering the backlight.

SOURCE: replacing gameboy advance sp shell

Try this website http://site.powergamingparts.com/repairGBAsp.html
I've replaced shells on the phat ds and it was fairly easy. This doesn't look nearly as complicated. It should be quick and easy.
The only thing I would say is be sure that you are careful with the cables. Make sure you lock them in right. Also, sometimes with new cases if you are having problems getting the metal thing back into the hinges, it is helpful to get a small flathead screwdriver and carve off some of the plastic inside the hinge opening (be very careful). Sometimes there is excess plastic that makes the hole too small for the hinge to fit through and this ensures that you don't scratch up the outside of the case while trying to get the hinge back in.

you either play them under direct (sun) light or attach some kind of external light like a worm light for a game boy color/advance, but the light isn't evenly distributed. i have a halo light for my gb advance--better than nothing.

No image on Gameboy Advance SP

It is possible to buy another Screen for the GBASP, however it would probably be less work and less trouble just to go to your local Gamestop and buy a new SP for 40 bucks.
