What counter do you want to reset?
The only counters you can reset are the "current rollers" counter and the session page counter shown on the LCD window in green.
To reset the green LCD counter to "0" just turn the scanner off, then back on.
To reset the "current rollers", go to "Control Panel" "Devices and Printers" or "Scanners and Cameras" (depending on OS) and then open the DR-7580 Properties>Counter tab>Reset button.
After 250,000 scans, you should get a warning to change the current consumable rollers.
If you are looking for a way to "roll back" the total scan count...well that would be DISHONEST...and I hope your scanner catches on fire :)

Clean the glass thoroughly. Try Automatic settings and try various contrast levels in mamual mode.

Assuming the document going through the scanner looks normal, there are a few things to check. If you open Capture Perfect, you can adjust the contrast and brightness as well as the thresholds. Sometimes different toners react differently to the scanner...paper is a big thing too. Multi-part forms can be tricky to get the settings adjusted so you pick up enough of the text but not that on the other side. If it's still messing up, you can try and get it serviced. Service Manauals are little difficult to get, need to search the web patiently. Be sure of the site, there are quite a false sites that rob you of your credit card details.

Use Qumatool to check if all the sensors are working okay. Normally sensors dont fail, there must be a small piece of paper (like the 'dot' of pre-printed stationery) sticking somewhere.
