RD9 product? I recently obtained a RD 9 detector. I am looking for this product on line and do not see it. i am looking for the items to plug into cig lighter and also hand it up while driving. can you direct me to where i can purchase these items thanks

I dont know the exact amp rating on the ESD9000 you could probably get away with a 1 amp fused cig plug. Using a cig plug this is basically direct to your battery. You can use any universal cig plug adapter as long as you make sure you have the polarity set correctly, usually on the Cobra radars the center is positive.

Of note, this extremely inexpensive radar detector provides just about the worst performance of any radar detector product currently available from any RD manufacturer. I suggest that you visit radardetector.net to learn more about radar detectors.

This model has been out of production for quite some time. You could try contacting Uniden to see if, by chance, they still have some replacement speakers for this older RD model. In any event, you would be well served to purchase a modern radar detector which provides far better performance. Personally, I recommend products produced by the following manufacturers:

Bel
Escort
Whistler (their higher end products -- XTR-690 model or higher. Their Pro78 or newer Pro78SE is one of my favorites.)

Uniden has been out of the radar detector business for some time now. I would strongly suggest getting a different radar detector instead of using this older model since newer radar detector models generally have far better performance -- especially for detecting Ka band radar.

Anyway, Uniden's web site does not list an instruction manual for this particular radar detector model. Yet, take a look at the instruction manual for the most similarly numbered product model shown in the following link:

One of the instruction manuals in the above link should be similar enough to your radar detector so that you can figure out everything regarding your specific Uniden RD model.

I suggest that you don't use this product. US designed and manufactured RD models have well over 10 times the detection range, and the unbelievably cheap Early Warning RD will merely give you a false sense of security -- followed soon after by a speeding ticket if you frequently speed. Jump over to radardetector.net for some real advise about radar detectors.

Cut the plug. Attach the wire centered in the cig. lighter plug to 12V switched power, and the other to a ground.

Only Bel/Escort has the expertise and instrumentation to recalibrate your radar detector. They automatically do other things whenever you send in a RD for service. For example, aside from diagnosing and repairing any issues (I think that your RD's antenna needs to be replaced or repaired), they also recalibrate it, fully test it, and update its internal computer firmware to whatever the most recent firmware is. In short, when your RD comes back, it performs just like a brand new RD.
