EC:207 Will Not accept blank DVD - Samsung DVD-HR720 DVD Recorder

Model number is everything. Samsung mostly supports DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM. Don't confuse this with plus (+) formats, although since @ 2004 other manufacturers are using Sony's multi-format DVD recording format. Are the codes in your user's manual? If not, try downloading a service manual for free from sites like Elektrotanya, Hifimanuals, hifiengine, or eserviceinfo. Then you may determine if you service help.

It may be the old discs are written in such a way they will not work here--See if you try a new disc if that works--if so you know your problem.

I bought a lens cleaner and ran it and it still would not accept blank dvd-r. I loaded some old recordings I made to see if they would play and they did. I noticed these were recorded on "Staples" brand dvd-r bought at Staples office supply store. I went out and bought some more of these and they work!! For whatever reason, the unit accepts these and I have made 5 copies and they all copy and play fine. Now i need to go get some more! The Maxell just won't work in my player. Too bad I bought 100!

Contact the helpline on 0871 2000 463. Maybe a faulty DVD drive. (Try a few different original disks first)

Not sure what the code itself means, but if the disc was recorded on another recorder, and not finalized, it will not play back on any other player but the one it was recorded on.

The modern DVDs won't play on older m/cs until you upgrade the driver for the DVD drive. Go to the manufacturer's website & download the latest driver for your machine.

I had exactly the same problem -- error message of "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disk [EC:0207]" after the machine had been working fine for a year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website, burned it to a CD-R disk (took three tries until the DVD Recorder recognized the disk -- worked when I used Rocio CD Creater software), then loaded the firmware updates to the DVD Recorder. On the Samsung website you can retrive the firmware update instructions as well. I had to perform the firmware upgrade several times until it successfully updated both the system firmware as well as the disk firmware. After successfully updating both, the Recorder now recognizes the DVD-R disks and I was able to resume recording. I have however, noted some choppiness with the playback of the newly recorded disks. Other than that, the firmware upgrade successfully resolved the problem.
