Typically a fax machine will use the phone line to communicate with other fax machines. There is a port on the back that you can plug a phone line into. I think it is the one below the port that looks like a phone handset.

The only manual will be the piece of paper on the inside cover. If you are missing that or need additional instructions you can contact the manufacturer direct using the link below...

if security code is not default or standart etc: 12345, 0000  you need tool box to do that. you can use UFS, JAFF. With this tool you can read the scurity code or you can make scurity to default

that problem can be caused by software problems and hardware problems.
At first please factory reset by scurity code. Use tool box if scurity code is not standart code. If the step not sucses, you  can chek headset conector ( you must disassembly the phone ) . chek and clean resistor and capasitor near that conector. 

use tool box / flsher box , you can read your scurity code or you can set default the scurity code
