Hi, If the pilot light goes out when you turn the gas knob to full power on lighting them the most likely cause will be a worn thermocouple, these usually last between 2 years up to 6 years. Found this site very helpful, patio heater problem solving. They have a few solutions to checking patio heaters.

Hi and welcome to FiXya I am Kelly.

Your pilot light burning yellow is a sign of a dirty orifice. This can be caused by insects or a spider web in the pilot air supply.
To clean the air supply / orifice area see this page:

http://www.nexgrill.net/trouble/p1.5.html

Also the thermocouple may not be close enough to the flame. You won't know this for sure until you finish cleaning the pilot / orifice area.

This link has step by step links for all of the components / causes of a pilot not staying lit. Click each of them and it will bring up a pdf file with step by step instructions and pictures:

http://www.nexgrill.net/trouble/p3.html

A bad thermocouple can also cause this. Givien you have a yellow flame I do not think this is your problem. But if it ends not staying lit after cleaning see this page on how to get to the thermocouple:

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Blue rhino endless summer patio heater

Try replacing the regulator, easy fix. If it is not the regulator, the thermocouple could be bad, or the pilot flame may not be strong enough to heat the thermocouple. Take apart the head, if you are comfortable with it, and see if there is a blockage in the pilot assembly.

Kirkland outdoor heater will not stay lit

The thermocouple is bad. That is the part right next to the pilot light that sense's the flame and hold the gas valve open to the pilot. Take the old thermocouple off and go to hard ware store and get a 18" one of what ever length you need and replace. 5 dollar part.

Patio heater ignites and stays lit with pilot. Then goes out.

Press and hold for 60 seconds and then it should stay lit (this is a safty feature on most models!)

Patio Heater pilot lights won't stay lit

crappy pilot flame (not properly heating the thermocouple), bad thermocouple, thermocouple loose where it screws into the pilot safety valve, bad safety valve magnet.

One or more of those is the problem.

Oh...there is also a saftey switch...in case it tips over. It will also cause the pilot to not stay lit (if the switch or wires that go to i are faulty)
