Hi there:
DTC P0011 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
A
code P0011 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable
camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control
module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components
but the P0011 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In
this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the
engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. The "A"
camshaft is either the intake, left, or front camshaft.
Potential Symptoms
Most likely a DTC P0011
will result in one of the following: hard starting, poor idle, and/or
stalling. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when
trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the
check engine light) illuminates.
Causes
A DTC P0011 trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
- Incorrect camshaft timing
- Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
- Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber
- Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)
Possible Solutions:
This
DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related
components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. Refer to
vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT
unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow
detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components
using a scan tool.
Other related DTCs: P0010 - P0011 - P0012 - P0020 - P0021 - P0022

P0011-A Camshaft Position-Timing Over Advanced or System Performance Bank 1
General Description
The CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) system is installed to the chain sprocket of the intake camshaft. This system controls the intake camshaft to provide the optimal valve timing for every driving condition. The PCM controls the Oil Control Valve(OCV), based on the signals output from mass air flow, throttle position and engine coolant temperature. The CVVT controller regulates the intake camshaft angle using oil pressure through the OCV. As result, the relative position between the camshaft and the crankshaft becomes optimal, and the engine torque improves, fuel economy improves, exhaust emissions decrease under overall driving conditions.
DTC Description
This diagnostic monitors the phasing response rate and determines whether the response rate is fast enough. A state machine is used to capture the response rate. The measured results are then compared to an allowable threshold. The threshold is a function of the oil temperature and the requested desired rate. Test of the phaser response rate requires an engine speed or engine load change.
PCM detects CAM phasing average rate while cam offset is available.
If the CAM phasing rate is failure in 12 times out of 15 CAM phasing test PCM determines that a fault exists and a DTC is stored.
System Inspection:
1.Visual Inspection
(1)Check oil level is O.K.
(2)Check oil level is contaminated
(3)Check that any oil leakage or blockage is occurred on the parts related to CVVT.
(4)Has a problem been found ?
1)Repair or replace as necessary and then, go to " Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
1)Go to "Component Inspection" procedure
As the code is stored, guess you'll need to take it to the dealer if the visual proves to be OK. Good luck with the dealer.
P0011 cam shaft valve actuator (VCT) had a peice of plastic stuck in it took it out so far so good
SOURCE: I recently changed my timing
You got two codes for Timing Over
Advanced
P0011-Bank 1
P0021-Bank 2
I'am assuming you know that
Cams moved, I would think,
when you did tensioners !!
Or , you have to reset the sensors,
of which I don't know your system
SOURCE: trouble codes p0011 and p0021
IT HAPPENED THAT SOMEBODY CHANGED THE CLUTCH AND THE FLYWHEEL AND INSTALLED THE WRONG FLYWHEEL AFTER WE INSTALLED A NEW FLYWHEEL THE PROBLEM WAS GONE.BUT THANKS ANYWAY.
