The S10 amplifier/headset system sets up like the Plantronics S12 system of which the user guide is included in the link below. As you will notice, it is designed to work with a telephone. It will not work as a stand-alone unit. To connect it to a dsl box, magic jack or any other line you will need a phone.

High pitched sound when attempting to use the headseat rather than the handset. I have tried all of the settings on the side of the desk moduel.

It sounds like it may be plugged into the wrong jack on the phone base. The cord from the S10 HAS TO BE plugged into the jack where the curly cord from your phone was plugged in. You can't use the headset jack, this will cause the high pitch sound you are hearing.

Telephone line RJ11 jack does not fit into plantronics

The correct connection size for headsets used with S10, T10 & T20 is an RJ9. The jack on the back of the T10 and T20 is an RJ9, this is for the cord that runs into the wall jack. The cord itself has an RJ9 on the end that plugs into the T10 & T20 and an RJ11 connection on the other end that plugs into the wall jack. This cord is supplied with the units.

Calls cutting out with magic jack

Your ISP connection speed may be inadequate. Typically, the upload speed (outgoing voice) is much slower than the incoming speed. To check majicjack recommends that you test your system on http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ .
It's also possible that your internet provider is purposely delaying the outgoing latency in order to discourage VoIP that THEY don't provide. I think this is (or at least should be illegal) but in any case a complaint to the FCC might be in order.

Ethernet cords

The cord that plugs into the DSL filter is a phone line and the other end plugs into your DSL modem. Also, every other jack that has a phone or fax or answering machine or caller id box has a DSL filter as well, in between the jack and the device.
