try to open it, there will be small short mirrors under black plactic covers, remove that thin covers and clean the mirror well and put it back. it has to remove the E8 error

First clean with a damp cloth, then try Isopropyl Alcohol. Dont use solvents. Check if papers are sticky. Stapled papers are 'sticky' even after removing staples. loosen them if required. Notmally rollers last 200,000 to 250,000 scans

Upgrade to Acobat 9.0 Pro. It seems to work in that can scan pages for a document, HOWEVER, adding/appending to already scaned pages for a document seems to crash 9.0. For example, say I scan in pages 1 - 4. I cannot then scan pages 5 -6 as part of the same document--crashes Acrobat.
I think this finally proves the problem is Acrobat 8.0 and NOT the i40 drivers.
