Hi,
Check whether the cartridge's correctly installed and re-install correctly.
Clean the printhead by:-

  • On the printers control panel, press the setup button.
  • Select tools and press OK.
  • Now select clean printhead and press OK.
  • After printhead cleaning, turn the printer off and then on again.

Hi

Black is not True black. It is slightly brown.

Printing in black uses mainly black but may also a tiny amount of a mixture of some of the other colours.

To minimize the usage of other colours:

HP Solution Center > Settings > Print Settings > Printer Settings > Color > tick Black Print Cartridge Only > OK.

HP ink can be expensive. It is possible to economize on HP inks in some cartridge formats by using Ink refill kits.

I hope this helps.

My HP Officejet 6500 Wireless printer won't print in black when trying to print from Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Excel or PDF. The ink cartridge is new. I have turned the printer off and...

I also have the OfficeJet 6500 and had the same problem. The black text was printing using a mix of colored inks instead of the black ink, resulting in a grey, fuzzy text. I finally found a solution. In each application under Page Setup, there is an option called "Format for". Mine had been set to "Any Printer". I changed that to "Officejet 6500 E709n [830E4A]" and now it prints the black just fine. I have a Mac running 10.4.11. Hope this helps.

Where to install new ink cartridge on the hp officejet 6500

Lift the top of the printer by applying pressure under the control panel. It might be quite stiff.

The print head will move into view and you can then release individual cartridges using the tab on the front edge of each cartridge.

Be sure to put them back in the correct location by referring to the colour coded marks on the print head, then gently press down until you hear a click.

When you are done push the lid back down and the printer should indicate that new (genuine) cartridges have been fitted. Press O.K.

Printer only won't print in black

My printer did that a few months ago. I tried everything to get it printing black but in the end I had to take the ink cartridge back and return a new one. Some ink cartridges dry out when they are being shipped if not stored in proper conditions.
