If the fault is only with the DISPLAY then there is no need to be concerned as this is due to low filament voltage or grid volage or a faulty display driver IC.
So check with the filament voltage which is about less than 3 Volt AC. Also check for the display grid negative to the IC and display so as to confirm the case.
If there is no other issue you might as well not tamper if you are not equipped as a false move can cause heavy damage.

Hi,
The screen displays becomes dark/ dim if there is no back light.
There are two parts responsible for lighting the display. First is the CCFL (Cold Cathode Florescent Lamp), which is the back light and the second is the Inverter board, which provides high voltage to the CCFL. These parts are inside the LCD screen. Either of the parts may be faulty or in some rare cases both. If you can see a faint image and the laptop turns on normally, then it is definitely the back light issue.
Rest assure that your system is ok and you can check it by connecting you laptop with some external display, which would work fine.

I SUGGEST THAT YOU SEEK PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE FROM AUTHORISED SERVICE/ REPAIR CENTER FOR REPLACEMENT OF INVERTER.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

My laptop screen is bright. Brightness control works but no picture. The picture is ok on external monitor. Sometimes a faint and incomplete picture appears on startup but disappears after a few seconds....

This might be a sign of a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

Bright white screen with faint images

If lighting did strike, you would be suffering power supply problems, due to a power surge from the strike.
The problem sounds like it could be related to the LCD panel becoming faulty or if your able to test inside the unit with a multimeter, you can measure the voltages from the printed circuit boards, especisly those suppling power to the LCD panel as well as the Logic PCB, A small printed circuit board you will find either attatched to the LCD panel. I hope this helps.
Good luck.

LG 50PG25 Plasma TV, black screen sound still works.

this faint picture issue is usually caused by a bad z sustain board. it is the smaller scan board on the right side of the tv when viewed from the back. it has some large cables that energize the plasma panel, dont confuse with the y sustain which has the tiny ribbon cables that address each line of the picture.
there should be a # on the board indicating the part number, plug it into a search engine to find parts.

this could also be a low voltage or something else, check the Vs and Va voltages and confirm theyre correct with the ones listed on the sticker inside the tv. Be careful this is dangerous and you can get shocked if you not familliar. The heatsinks can be energized and shock you , exercise caution. if you order a z sus board, make sure you can return if it doesn't fix. I'd say 95% chance its a z sus

My dell e1404 laptop is having a issue with the screen. When you turn on the computer the screen will come on for about 30 seconds and then go off. When it's on everything looks normal. once it goes out...

The inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. The inverter board converts low voltage DC power (few volts) supplied by the motherboard to high voltage AC power (few hundred volts) needed for the backlight lamp.
When the inverter board works properly, the backlight lamp gets power and the LCD screen lights up. As a result, the image on the screen is bright. If the screen is dimming down, means that the inverter is failing in it;s job to supply the needed voltage to the Backlight.
The Inverter is mounted underneath the display screen and is connected by a two wire plug.

My Dell Inspiron 6400 screen is blank. I can see a very faint image of the desktop on the screen. What could be causing the problem and how do i resolve it?

It may have something to do with your adjustment of the LCD's brightness. Look for the brightness key in your keyboard and adjust it. Usually it goes with the Fn button.
