My HP 1022 prints a test page every time it's turned on. There's no option anywhere in Properties to turn this off. I can't scan it to fix it like the others seem to do because this printer model doesn't have a scanner. Is there any way to stop it printing test pages? It's such a waste. Thanks!

If you are using a Windows PC you have to go to control panel, printer options, and calibrate the printer. Follow the steps to do so. Make sure you have the proper driver installed as well.

First step is to see will if it print a test page.
Go to Start, settings, printers. Right click on the printer, properties, print test page.If that doesn't work there should be a head cleaning option in properties that will make it clean the print heads.
Try the self-test? I'm not sure on the 5550 printer, but do this:With the printer ON,
1. Press and hold the power button
2. While holding the power button, press the resume button 4 times
3. Release the power button

Jan 2013 Installed this new printer driver and all my HP 1022 problems disappeared; now printing perfectly back as usual!

Press the Go button until the green light starts flashing and the motor starts. The configuration page prints.

Go button is next to the Cancel Button ( X )

I know your problem and i want to know that have you changed or refill your cartridge?.

if yes
place one plain paper in the tray.
it will print the test paper
print it and place it on the scanner with the printed side down.
press the scan button from the printer
printer will blink the light for some time and stop blinking
now it didn't print test print every time you print

That is not the Test Page. That is the Alignment Page. The Alignment is not complete.
Scan the page once and then let the alignment complete.

is this a test page or is it scanning? When you installed the unit did you follow all the steps because some all in ones won't rest until they have done all the 9 yards.
Check you printer default settings. Got to control panel>printers>properties for the printer you have installed. It may have an option for the printer to print the test page on startup

That is a "configuration-option" -- navigate through the controls on the printer itself to disable that option; or, just leave the printer on -- it will go to "power-save" mode after a few minutes of non-usage.

HP LaserJet 1022 Printing Blank Pages

I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy until I did this. Please follow exactly and IN ORDER.

1. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again

2. Let the printer print the test page.

3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable.

4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned.

5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady.

6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay!

(You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)
