When I put the new color cartridge in the cartridge light keeps flashing constantly. When I put the empty cartridge back the printer works fine. Do I assume my $60 cartridge is faulty or is there a simple solution to this. Can anybody help please?

E5 is a Cartridge cannot be recognized error.
Reinstalling the cartridge could clear the alarm.
If this does not work,
Removed both ink cartridges.
Turn off printer and unplug fron electrical outlet.
Wait at least 5 minutes.
This will let the printer reset itself.
Plug printer back in and turn on.
Printer will cycle and an E5 will appear.
Installed back ink cartridges.
You should check your cartridges. If one of them is empty, usually the printer won't print. Your cartridges have chips on them, and that chip determines how much you are going to print. Usually, when both lights are flashing, and nothing works, it has something to do with the cartridges. If that is not the case though, please leave me a comment, as I would love to help!
A blinking orange light means an empty or incorrectly installed ink cartridge. Ensure that the cartridge is not empty or dried out. Also be sure you installed the number 45 black and number 78 tri color cartridges. The 41 tri-color, for example, looks the same but would generate an error. Also, check that the panel in the back, or duplexer if you have one, is seated firmly in the printer as this can generate odd errors.
No, you do not need 3 cartridges or anything like that. Some cartridges have chips. Yours do not. If the light keeps blinking it means that one of the electrical contacts on the cartridge has blown and now the printer doesn't recognize it. Try printing something, you will get a message "problem with color cartridge" or "color cartridge missing". That means that the printer doesn't recognize it. I suggest you buy a new one. Or, if you have an old one, try putting it in and see if the light still blinks.
light is blinking, and the
printer stops printing.
The print cartridge is
empty or missing.
The printer cannot
detect the print
1. Reinsert or replace the print cartridge.
2. If the print-cartridge light is still blinking but the
Attention light is not on, turn the printer off and
then back on.
3. If the problem persists, repeat the above steps
with yellow print cartridges until the error is
4. If the problem persists, replace the printcartridge
E-label reader, which is located on the
pressure assembly of the print-cartridge
you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
