Hard drive wines when off. I have a WD Netcenter 250GB (old and out of warranty) that stopped working. Now when off i hear a constant humm or wine that changes picth with network traffic on router it is connected to. It will not boot up or spin. When I turn it on it will cycle in hihg pitch wine then go fromt light just blins (note the pitch changes match the blinking).
If it is a voltage overload, could the HD or data be salvaged??? Lucky for me it stops humming when unplugged. If it is a voltage overload, could the HD or data be salvaged??? Lucky for me it stops humming when unplugged.

Test this out on another computer to see if it does the same thing. If that doesn't work, then send the drive in to Hitachi under warranty because it is failing.
